Ghost of Yōtei Editions Explained: Which Version Should You Buy in 2026?

Published 8 min read

Buy the $69.99 Complete Edition if you are new to Ghost of Yōtei. It includes the full PS5 game, both paid additions—Echoes of Sekigahara and Most Wanted—and every Digital Deluxe cosmetic, for the same US list price as the 2025 Standard Edition. If you already own Standard or Digital Deluxe, the $14.99 Complete Edition Upgrade is the sensible purchase. Choose a discounted Standard Blu-ray only when you want the cheapest way into the base campaign and intend to skip the paid additions. The $249.99 Collector’s Edition is a merchandise purchase: its gameplay package is effectively Digital Deluxe, while its value comes from the Ghost Mask, sash, tsuba, art cards, papercraft tree and Zeni Hajiki set.

Which Ghost of Yōtei edition should a new player buy?

The Complete Edition is the default choice. It costs $69.99 in the US, matching the original Standard launch price, but adds both post-launch paid releases and the entire Digital Deluxe pack. Sucker Punch communications manager Andrew Goldfarb described it as the package for players who have not yet experienced Atsu’s journey.

The Complete Edition contains the base campaign set in 1600s Ezo, the Echoes of Sekigahara narrative expansion, the single-player Most Wanted survival mode, the Snake Armor, Digital Deluxe armor dye, Deluxe horse and saddle, sword kit, Traveler’s Maps early unlock, Charm of Amaterasu, an in-game mask and Charm of Hokkyokusei. It also includes the free Ghost of Yōtei Legends update, although Legends is available to every owner rather than being locked to this SKU.

Buy Standard instead only when the disc price is materially lower and you are certain you want the campaign without the two paid additions. A late-October 2026 Amazon search showed a Standard PS5 listing around $53.99, while Complete was listed at $69.99. That $16 difference is the practical budget decision; it is not a content advantage for Standard.

What does the Complete Edition add?

It adds the only paid story and mode content in the current lineup. Digital Deluxe never contained extra missions or regions, whereas Complete adds two substantial releases alongside its cosmetics.

Echoes of Sekigahara

This narrative expansion moves between present-day Ezo and flashbacks to Atsu’s past. You meet Nagato, visit a previously unseen valley associated with The Snake and the Vipers, and play Atsu during the Battle of Sekigahara. The expansion also introduces heavy weapons, armor sets and dyes.

Most Wanted

Most Wanted is a single-player combat-survival mode that Goldfarb called Sucker Punch’s “spin on a roguelike.” It is built around bounty runs, selectable perks and additional playable characters. Trailer examples include Atsu with dual katana, Oyuki with a kusarigama and Nagato with a yari.

What every owner receives for free

The 1 October 2026 update added a Beauty of Yōtei environment screensaver mode, Watanabe Mode music tracks, an option to keep one armor set’s appearance while using another set’s statistics, and a new high-contrast accessibility setting. These features do not require Complete.

Ghost of Yōtei Legends is also a free major update for all owners. It supports two to four players online and culminates in a Raid. PlayStation Plus is required for online play. Buying Complete is not necessary to access Legends.

Is the $14.99 Complete Edition Upgrade worth it?

Yes, for anyone who already owns Standard or Digital Deluxe and wants the paid additions. The Upgrade grants Echoes of Sekigahara and Most Wanted. If your existing copy lacks the Deluxe pack, it also unlocks the Snake Armor, armor dye, horse and saddle, sword kit, Traveler’s Maps, Charm of Amaterasu and Charm of Hokkyokusei.

Do not buy the full $69.99 Complete Edition again. A leftover Digital Deluxe Upgrade listing, where it still appears, is inferior: the Complete Upgrade costs the same $14.99 while adding both expansions and the extra charm. The Upgrade is the correct path for both Standard and Digital Deluxe owners.

What is in the Standard Edition?

Standard contains the base PS5 game and is sold as a PlayStation Store download or Blu-ray. Its launch MSRP was $69.99 in the US, £69.99 in the UK, €79.99 in Spain and euro markets, and ¥8,980 tax included in Japan.

Launch copies were advertised with seven PSN avatars featuring Atsu and the Yōtei Six, plus an in-game mask as pre-order or early-purchase bonuses. Those bonuses were treated as early-purchase rewards in Japanese guides, not strictly pre-order-only items. Whether a newly manufactured discounted Standard disc purchased in late 2026 still grants them is not confirmed on the current Complete store module, so check the individual product page before assuming the codes are included.

What did Digital Deluxe include, and is it still worth buying?

Digital Deluxe is no longer the smart new-player purchase. Its 2025 US price was $79.99, a $10 premium over Standard, and it was sold only through the PlayStation Store. The package included the base game plus:

  • Snake Armor
  • Digital Deluxe Armor Dye
  • Digital Deluxe Horse and Saddle
  • A Sword Kit, described as a golden sword kit in some regional listings
  • A charm listed on the current official Complete page as Charm of Amaterasu
  • Traveler’s Maps early unlock, which helps locate statues used for skill upgrades

The campaign, missions and explorable areas were otherwise identical to Standard. Digital Deluxe added no exclusive story chapter or map. Because Complete now costs $69.99 and includes this entire pack plus the two paid additions, a new buyer should choose Complete rather than an old Deluxe listing.

What is in the Collector’s Edition?

The Collector’s Edition is for physical memorabilia, not extra gameplay. Its Western launch price was $249.99, with PlayStation Direct as the official channel. It bundled the Digital Deluxe game content and launch bonuses with:

  • Atsu’s Ghost Mask on a display stand, approximately 17.3 × 12.7 × 15 cm according to theGeek’s reveal recap
  • Atsu’s sash bearing the names of the Yōtei Six, approximately 180 cm long
  • A tsuba, or sword-guard replica, approximately 7.6 × 7.6 cm
  • A foldable papercraft ginkgo tree with a wolf figure at its base
  • Four art cards measuring approximately 12.7 × 17.8 cm
  • A Zeni Hajiki coin game and pouch, including its rules

It does not include the often-claimed 19-inch katana replica, steelbook or lore art book. Those items do not appear in the consistent official and major-publisher contents lists.

Does the Collector’s Edition come with a disc?

For US, UK and EU Western releases, no: the box contains a digital download code rather than a Blu-ray. Japanese listings describe a packaged disc edition with the same general goods, so this is a regional distinction. Check the language and territory of the product page before buying an import or an aftermarket box.

Should you buy a physical disc or a digital copy?

Choose Standard Blu-ray when resale, lending or the lowest upfront price matters and you are comfortable adding the $14.99 Upgrade later. Choose Complete digitally for immediate access to every paid addition without swapping discs. A physical Complete PS5 listing also appeared at $69.99 through Amazon in October 2026, so disc buyers should compare that listing with discounted Standard stock rather than assuming Complete is digital-only.

Digital Deluxe and the Western Collector’s Edition are digital-game products. Collector’s physical goods do not turn its included game into a disc copy.

How do regional prices and release dates differ?

The original launch prices were $69.99 Standard, $79.99 Digital Deluxe and $249.99 Collector’s in the US; £69.99, £79.99 and £219.99 in the UK; €79.99, €89.99 and €249.99 in euro pricing reported for Spain; and ¥8,980, ¥9,980 and ¥31,980 tax included in Japan. These are launch MSRPs, not promises about current retailer pricing.

Ghost of Yōtei launched on 2 October 2025 for PS5 and PS5 Pro Enhanced. Complete went live globally on 1 October 2026, with 2 October availability in some Asian, Australian and New Zealand territories. The official FAQ describes the game as a PS5 exclusive; no PC version was listed in the current product information.

What happened to the Sakai Armor bonus?

The early-unlock window for the Sakai Armor throwback bonus ended on 30 September 2026. Digital Complete Edition or Upgrade purchases made by that date unlocked it on 1 October. A purchase made after the deadline should not be advertised as including that bonus.

Are the special PS5 bundles game editions?

No. The Black and Gold limited PS5 bundles were hardware packages, not additional campaign editions. Their US MSRP was $599.99 and the included voucher covered the base game, not Digital Deluxe or Complete. Matching accessories included an $84.99 Ghost of Yōtei Black DualSense controller and $64.99 Gold console covers for PS5 Pro and PS5 Slim. Buy these for the hardware design, not for exclusive story content.

How should you choose in one minute?

  1. New to the game: buy Complete Edition at $69.99.
  2. Already own Standard or Digital Deluxe: buy the $14.99 Complete Edition Upgrade.
  3. Only want the base campaign on disc: compare discounted Standard Blu-ray prices; Legends remains free.
  4. Want the 2025 cosmetics but not the expansions: do not pay for an old Deluxe upgrade when Complete Upgrade costs the same and includes more.
  5. Want the Ghost Mask and display items: seek a Collector’s Edition, but verify region, code-versus-disc format and current stock.

How the editions were selected

The ranking follows current US list prices, included story and mode content, cosmetic contents, physical-versus-digital format, retailer availability and collector value as of October 2026. It treats Legends and the October 2026 quality-of-life patch as free content for all owners, rather than reasons to pay for Complete.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you pronounce Yōtei?

The official PlayStation FAQ gives the pronunciation as “Yo-tay.” The long vowel mark in Yōtei is retained in the game’s title, but the spoken form is two syllables.

Is Ghost of Yōtei a direct sequel to Ghost of Tsushima?

No. The official FAQ says it is not a direct sequel, though it continues Sucker Punch’s design and mythos. The story follows Atsu in Ezo roughly 300 years after Ghost of Tsushima, and Jin Sakai is not a character in the base game.

Can I play Legends without buying Complete Edition?

Yes. Legends is a free major update for every edition. Online co-op supports up to four players, but a PlayStation Plus membership is required for online play.

Does every Collector’s Edition include the same game format?

No. Western US, UK and EU boxes use a digital download code, while Japanese listings describe a packaged disc version. Verify the region before purchasing an import or resale copy.
