How to Install Google Play Games on PC (formerly Beta) in Windows and Play Android Games

October 26, 2026 10 min read

Install Google Play Games on PC from Google’s official download page, run the Windows installer, and follow its prompts. Before you start, the PC needs Windows 10 version 2004, an SSD with at least 10 GB free, 8 GB of RAM, Intel UHD Graphics 630 or comparable graphics, four physical CPU cores, a Windows administrator account, and hardware virtualization enabled. Google may also ask you to enable Windows Hypervisor Platform and restart Windows. The current product name is Google Play Games on PC; “Google Play Games Beta” is older wording still found in some legacy pages.

What is Google Play Games on PC, and why does the name matter?

Google Play Games on PC is Google’s Windows client for a curated selection of Android games. It is not a universal Android emulator: the PC catalog is separate from the full Android Google Play catalog, and each title must be available and compatible with the PC client.

Google’s current product and support pages use the name Google Play Games on PC. Older help articles and third-party guides may still say “Google Play Games Beta,” so seeing both names does not indicate two different current installers. Use the download button on play.google.com/googleplaygames rather than an old installer mirror.

The client can synchronize progress between Android and Windows when the individual game supports that feature. Use the same Google Account on your phone or tablet and on the PC; synchronization is controlled by the game, not guaranteed for every title.

Does your Windows PC meet the current requirements?

Check every minimum before downloading. The installer performs its own requirements check and will not continue when the computer fails the minimum check.

Requirement Google’s current minimum
Operating system Windows 10, version 2004
Storage SSD with at least 10 GB available; Google’s installation-error guidance specifically checks free space on the C: drive
Memory 8 GB RAM
Graphics Intel UHD Graphics 630 or comparable GPU
Processor Four physical CPU cores
Windows account Administrator account with full privileges
Virtualization Hardware virtualization enabled in BIOS or UEFI
Recommended for better performance Gaming-class graphics such as an Nvidia GeForce MX450 and eight logical CPU cores; configure the SSD as the computer’s main drive

These are Google’s currently published figures, not a promise that every game will run equally well. They also do not mean that 20 GB of storage, DirectX 12, or a 64-bit processor are Google’s current universal minimums. Those specifications may appear in older guides or in requirements for a particular installer version, but they are not the minimums on Google’s current requirements page.

For the complete regional and hardware criteria, see Google’s requirements article.

Is Google Play Games on PC available in your region and account type?

The service is available in the United States and other supported countries and regions. Your Google Play country must be set to a supported location, and some countries require age verification.

Use a personal Google Account. A work, school, or otherwise managed account may not qualify even when the Windows computer itself meets every hardware requirement. If the installer reports that the service is unavailable in your region, confirm the account’s Google Play country rather than repeatedly reinstalling Windows.

Google documents availability and account conditions at its regional requirements page.

What should you do about virtualization before installing?

Google documents two separate virtualization requirements. They solve different parts of the setup and one does not automatically enable the other.

Enable CPU hardware virtualization in BIOS or UEFI

Hardware virtualization is a firmware setting on the processor platform. Depending on the manufacturer, it can be named Intel Virtualization Technology, AMD SVM, or something similar. Google does not publish one universal BIOS path because menus differ by motherboard and processor; use the support instructions for your PC or motherboard manufacturer.

Save the firmware change and boot back into Windows before running the installer. Enabling this setting alone does not enable Windows Hypervisor Platform.

Allow Windows Hypervisor Platform when the installer asks

If Windows Hypervisor Platform is disabled, Google Play Games may display a prompt to enable it during installation. Accept the prompt and restart the computer so the Windows feature takes effect. If the feature is already enabled, the prompt may not appear.

These two settings are explained separately in Google’s installation instructions. Enabling Windows’ hypervisor features can interfere with some other Android emulators, so plan for a restart and test those applications afterward.

How do you install Google Play Games on PC?

The supported installation uses the downloaded installer and on-screen prompts. You do not need a command-line command.

  1. Open the official page. On the Windows PC, go to play.google.com/googleplaygames.
  2. Download the installer. Select Download and wait for the Windows installer file to finish downloading.
  3. Run the file. Open the downloaded installer. Windows may ask for administrator approval; provide it with an account that has full administrator privileges.
  4. Let the requirements check run. The installer checks Windows, storage, memory, graphics, processor, account permissions, and virtualization. If a minimum is missing, installation stops until the issue is corrected.
  5. Enable Windows Hypervisor Platform if prompted. Accept the change, then restart Windows as requested. Do not skip the restart.
  6. Complete the on-screen setup. Continue through Google’s prompts and allow the client to finish downloading its components. Google says installation can take several minutes.
  7. Launch the client. Open Google Play Games on PC from the Start menu or its desktop shortcut after setup completes.

If the download or installer fails, do not use a third-party package. Download a fresh copy from the official page and use the error-specific remedies below.

How do you sign in, create a profile, and bring over game progress?

Sign in with the Google Account you use on Android when you want a supported game to share progress across devices. A shared save is game-dependent; using the same account cannot force synchronization in a title that does not implement it.

On the first Windows sign-in, Google may ask you to create a Play Games profile:

  1. Enter a gamer name, if you want one.
  2. Select Edit to change the profile image, if desired.
  3. Select Create Profile.

The profile flow is described in Google’s Play Games profile help. If a game has its own account system, cloud-save setting, or sign-in screen, complete those in the game as well; Play Games account sign-in and a game’s internal account are not necessarily the same service.

How do you install an Android game after setup?

Only games listed for Google Play Games on PC can be installed through this client. The Android catalog and PC catalog are not identical, and Google does not support installing every Android game.

  1. Open Google Play Games on PC.
  2. Search for the game by name.
  3. Open the game’s details page.
  4. Select Install.

The catalog page may show a compatibility label. Treat it as a useful signal, not a guarantee for every PC or every future game update.

Label What Google says it means
Optimized The developer optimized the game for Windows.
Playable Google tested the game and found it stable at 30 FPS or higher, with mouse and/or keyboard support.
Untested Google has not tested the game on PC; it may still work.
Unsupported Google identified technical issues that may cause crashes, sign-in errors, or poor performance.
Not available The game is unavailable on Google Play Games on PC or unavailable for that particular computer.

Google says compatibility testing is not continuous. A label may not reflect the newest version of a game or every hardware configuration. Read the label together with your own PC’s graphics, processor, and input capabilities. More detail is available in Google’s compatibility-label explanation.

How do you keep the client updated?

Google’s release notes state that, since June 5, 2025, Google Play Games on PC no longer supports client versions released before May 2022. Google lists 22.5.464.0 as the minimum supported client version.

To check manually:

  1. Find the Google Play Games on PC icon in the Windows taskbar notification area.
  2. Right-click the icon.
  3. Select Check for updates.
  4. Follow the update prompts.

If updating fails, Google’s recommended recovery is to uninstall the application, download the installer again from the official Google Play Games on PC website, and reinstall. The version policy is documented in Google’s release notes, and update recovery appears in Google’s update help.

How do you fix Google Play Games installation errors?

Match the code shown by the installer to the remedy in Google’s current table. Codes in the same row have the same recommended action.

Error code Meaning Google-listed action
10901, 99999, NC99999, NU00002A95, NU0001869F Unexpected or unidentified error Reinstall. If needed, restart the PC and try again.
NU8001008, NU80040811, NUFFFFFFFF Windows needs to be upgraded Upgrade Windows; Google notes that a minor-version upgrade may resolve the problem.
NU80040801 Unstable network connection Check the connection and try again later.
NU80040804, NU80040904, NU80070424, NU800706BA, NU800706BE, NU80072F7D, NUA0430817 Installer download or communication failure Download the installer again from the Google Play Games on PC website.
NU80040806 Google Play Games is unavailable in the region Verify country and region availability for the Google Account.
NU80070005, NU80070542 Full Windows administrator privileges are required Obtain or restore administrator privileges, then run setup again.
NU80070070 Insufficient storage Free at least 10 GB on the C: drive. If installing to another drive, make sure that drive also has sufficient space.
NU80072F8F Network error Try again. If it persists, connect to a different network.

Google maintains the code table at its installation-error help page.

What is the recovery sequence when no useful error appears?

Use this order when setup fails without a clear code or when repeating the installer changes nothing:

  1. Recheck every minimum requirement, including Windows version, SSD space, RAM, graphics, CPU cores, administrator access, and both virtualization settings.
  2. Enable Windows Hypervisor Platform if Google Play Games asks for it, then restart.
  3. Open Windows Apps & features and uninstall Google Play Games on PC.
  4. Restart the computer.
  5. Return to the official Google Play Games on PC website and download the installer again.
  6. Run the new installer and complete setup.
  7. If the failure remains, run the installer again and select Send feedback.
  8. Select Send system information.
  9. Enter #gpginstall in the message box.
  10. Select Send.

This sequence and the feedback tag come from Google’s installation troubleshooting guidance. Sending system information gives Google the diagnostic context needed for an installer failure that the visible code does not explain.

Can you use other Android emulators at the same time?

Not always. Google warns that some other Android emulators may stop working while Windows Hypervisor Platform or related hypervisor features are enabled. Google Play Games itself may also stop working if you disable the hypervisor it requires.

To disable the Windows feature through the interface when you need to troubleshoot another emulator:

  1. Open Control Panel.
  2. Select Programs.
  3. Select Programs and Features.
  4. Select Turn Windows features on or off.
  5. Expand Hyper-V, then Hyper-V Platform.
  6. Clear Hyper-V Hypervisor. On Windows 10 Home, Google says to clear Windows Hypervisor Platform instead.
  7. Restart the computer.

The exact labels can vary by Windows edition. Re-enable the required feature and restart again before launching Google Play Games on PC. Google’s instructions are at this hypervisor troubleshooting page.

Which common installation claims are outdated?

  • “The official name is still Google Play Games Beta.” The current landing and support pages call it Google Play Games on PC; “Beta” is legacy wording.
  • “BIOS virtualization is all you need.” CPU hardware virtualization and Windows Hypervisor Platform are separate settings and may both be required.
  • “Every Android game installs.” The PC client has its own catalog and compatibility labels.
  • “Google requires 20 GB free.” The current published minimum is an SSD with 10 GB available, and the storage error guidance checks at least 10 GB on C:.
  • “Playable means guaranteed on every computer.” Google’s tests are not continuous and cannot represent every hardware configuration or the newest game version.
  • “Hyper-V never affects other emulators.” Google warns that some emulators may not work while the Windows hypervisor features are enabled.

What should you check before installing a particular game?

First search for the title inside Google Play Games on PC rather than assuming that its Android listing will appear. Then read the compatibility label, confirm that the game supports your preferred mouse or keyboard controls, and leave enough SSD space for both the client and the game. If the title is marked Untested, Unsupported, or Not available, installation or stable play is not assured even when the Windows client itself installed correctly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do some websites still call it Google Play Games Beta?

Google changed the current product wording to Google Play Games on PC, but older help-page titles and archived guides still contain “Beta.” The legacy label usually refers to the same Windows client, so use Google’s current landing page to obtain the installer.

Is Google Play Games on PC a way to install any Android app?

No. It is a Windows client for supported Android games, not a general APK-sideloading tool or a mirror of the entire Android Play catalog. A title must be listed for the PC client before its Install button appears.

Why can a game be available on my phone but missing on my PC?

The PC catalog has separate compatibility and regional rules. A game can be offered on Android while being untested, unsupported, unavailable in your region, or unavailable for your particular computer in Google Play Games on PC.

Does a 30-FPS Playable label guarantee smooth play after a game update?

No. The label reflects Google’s testing at the time it was performed, and Google says testing is not continuous. A later game version, driver change, or different hardware configuration can produce a different result.
