How Villagers Were Ranked

There are several guides out there ranking Animal Crossing: New Horizons villagers. However, a fair bit of the writer’s biases usually goes into the list. While there’s nothing wrong with writing opinions, this guide ranks the villagers based on aggregated information.

Did it take me way too many hours to construct this guide? You bet. But to put this together, I collected information from numerous polls including (but not limited to) Animal Crossing Portal and GameWith. Additionally, I found some of the more popular, recent Reddit posts on this topic, and I read through the comments with the most upvotes. Lastly, I spent a lot of time on Nookazon comparing the most expensive Animal Crossing villagers with the results from the polls and Reddit posts. In short, this was a lot of note-taking, highlighting, copying, and pasting. Yes, my brain hurts now.

Is this an exact science and perfectly unbiased tier list? Absolutely not. some posts were more recent than others, which means that the newest villagers weren’t always present. Furthermore, especially when it came down to the bottom tiers, there was significantly less data to work with. However, this guide is probably the closest I could get to a perfect list without spending my entire year on it.

It would be impossible to rank the villagers in an exact order. After all, could we really distinguish notable differences between villagers ranked 339 and 340? Therefore, the villagers have been categorized into tiers of popularity. Within the tiers, the villagers appear in no particular order. In this guide, most to least popular tiers descend from S, A, B, C, D, down to E.
