Key Takeaway

The ‘Sit in Judgment’ quest will trigger each time you capture a criminal during the main story or relevant side quests. As the Inquisitor, you’ll be tasked with determining the fate of these unfortunate prisoners. Your companions may approve or disapprove of your choices, and the decisions you make can potentially unlock items and impact the story.

As you make your way through the story and side quests of Dragon Age: Inquisition, you’ll occasionally take bad guys captive instead of outright killing them. As Inquisitor, you have the difficult task of passing judgment on these unlucky prisoners in the repeating Sit in Judgment quest.

About the ‘Sit in Judgment’ Repeating Quest

Following important main story events, you’ll occasionally be called on to decide a fitting punishment for many of the game’s villains. Additionally, certain story-relevant side quests will also trigger the ‘Sit in Judgment’ quest to begin.

The quest will only begin once you’ve reached Skyhold after the attack on Haven. After judging the first prisoner, the quest will independently trigger each time a new prisoner is captured and brought to the Skyhold prison. To begin a judgment, interact with the throne in the main hall.

    Note
Even if you have someone to judge, the quest won’t trigger until you leave Skyhold and return at least once.

During each instance of this quest, a prisoner is brought before the Inquisitor and their charges are read by Josephine—the Inquisition’s ambassador and chief diplomat. They then have a chance to respond before the power is given to you to decide their fate. Punishments include things like exile, execution, further imprisonment, and more (depending on the convict in question).

Members of your inner circle may approve or disapprove of your judgments. Certain rulings will unlock new thrones and war table operations, while others will result in prisoners becoming agents of the Inquisition.

Some judgments can only be passed down if you have unlocked specific Inquisition Perks or made specific decisions during the main story. The Inquisitor’s race and class may also impact your choices.

    Main Quest Judgments

There are some Sit in Judgment trials that only pertain to the main quest in Dragon Age: Inquisition. To encounter more of these sentencing opportunities, make progress in the main quest. You’ll have chances to mete out justice to some of the story’s most antagonistic villains—give them what they deserve!

    Knight-Captain Denam

Accused of willfully corrupting his fellow Templars with Red Lyrium and betraying the order, Knight-Captain Denam is captured as part of the ‘Champions of the Just’ quest.

During the quest, it’s possible to find Denam’s personal quarters inside Therinfal Redoubt. If you unlock the door and find the secrets kept within, the judgments you can choose will be altered.

    Side Quest Judgments

These Sit in Judgment trials revolve around some of the many side quests you can complete in Dragon Age: Inquisition. The more side quests you do, the more sentences you can pass against the lesser villains of this epic game’s story. Verbalize your verdicts!

    Chief Movran the Under

On a less serious note, Chief Movran is judged for attacking Skyhold with a goat after his son was killed by the Inquisition following the quest ‘Lost Souls.’ This side quest is automatically acquired at Haven following the completion of the war table operation ‘Scout the Hinterlands.’

    Note
Movran can be recruited as an agent for the Inquisition, but he will not appear in the Inquisition perk list.

    Mayor Gregory Dedrick

Accused of purposefully drowning citizens of Old Crestwood during the Fifth Blight, Mayor Gregory Dedrick’s crimes are revealed during the ‘Still Waters’ side quest. This is automatically obtained when you arrive in Crestwood.

You must also complete the war table operation ‘Find Crestwood’s Mayor’ before this judgment becomes available.

    Captain Thom Rainier

This shocking judgment is triggered as part of Blackwall’s companion quest ‘Revelations,’ which begins after the main story quests ‘Here Lies the Abyss’ and ‘Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts.’ Your approval of him must be relatively high.

Additionally, you must complete one of two war table operations: ‘Rainier’s Release: An Alternative’ or ‘Thom Rainier’s Fate.’

Accused of treason, murder, and impersonating a Grey Warden, this is one of the more difficult judgments given your history with this enigmatic character.

    Crassius Servis

Crassius’s crimes are deplorable, from apostasy and smuggling to working alongside Corypheus. However, he can prove to have some worth to the Inquisition.

This judgment becomes available after completing the quest ‘The Trouble with Darkspawn’ in the Western Approach. You’ll get this quest by chatting with Commander Rylen after claiming Griffon Wing Keep.

    Storvacker

Passing judgment on an animal may seem ridiculous, but the Inquisitor is asked to do so by Thane Svarah Sun-Hair during the Jaws of Hakkon DLC.

This silly scene will trigger after completing ‘Storvacker Caged, Guests of the Hold,’ and ‘Hakkon Wintersbreath.’
