A Dragon Heart is key to owning the strength of the dragons. You can only get it from hunting down certain dragons that are mighty in their own ways. Come, be the Draconic Elden Lord of the Lands Between.

    Dragon Heart Uses

Dragon Heart and Tarnished consuming it during the Dragon Communion Ritual.

A Dragon Heart is a consumable that you can get from certain dragons throughout the Lands Between. There are 23 Dragon Hearts to get per playthrough, but you will only be using 20 of them. Consuming them will eventually turn you into a dragon — you’ll gain yellow dragon eyes as a consequence.

    How to Use Dragon Hearts

A Dragon Heart is used as an offering at a dragon altar to get Dragon Communion Incantations. Collecting them is a must for those who have Faith/Arcane builds. When in the Church of Dragon Communion or Cathedral of Dragon Communion, here’s what you must do:

    1. Find the altar, and examine it.
    2. Select “Ritual of Dragon Communion.”
    3. Pick a Dragon Communion Incantation.
    4. Choose “OK” when asked to make an offering.

Where to Get Dragon Communion Incantations

Currently, there are 14 Dragon Communion Incantations in Elden Ring. There are only two places you can get them from. The following are their locations, along with the description and requirements for each incantation:

    Church of Dragon Communion

Coastal Cave and Church of Dragon Communion site of grace, and Tarnished at the Dragon Altar.

It’s located at an isle across the Coastal Cave of East Limgrave, which is the only way to gain access to the church. There are only three Dragon Communion Incantations to get here. Each of the following requires you to offer only one Dragon Heart, and one Memory Slot to equip:

How to Reach Cathedral of Dragon Communion (Early Game)

Dragon-Burnt Ruins, Sellia Crystal Tunnel, and Cathedral of Dragon Communion site of grace.

If you also want to get the Glintstone Breath, Dragonice, and Rotten Breath, you must have access to the Cathedral of Dragon Communion early on. Here’s how to do that:

    1. Go to the Dragon-Burnt Ruins. It’s located south of Agheel Lake, Limgrave.
    2. Find the Transporter Trap Chest in a cellar guarded by Wondering Nobles and Wild Dogs.
    3. Make your way to the Sellia Crystal Tunnel grace site.
    4. Summon Torrent and go southwest of the Swamp of Aeonia. The cathedral is located west of a joint road in South Caelid.

How to Equip Dragon Communion Incantations

Tarnished at the Heart of Aeonia site of grace to equip Dragonfire through the Memorize Spell option.

To get started on using these powerful incantations, you need to do the following:

    1. Rest at any Site of Grace.
    2. Select “Memorize Spell” from the menu.
    3. Pick a Dragon Communion Incantation.

Make sure to meet the Stat Requirements of each Incantation. It’s recommended to use the Dragon Communion Seal to cast these incantations, while also boosting their potency by 15%.

The Best Dragon Communion Incantations to Use

Out of the 14 Dragon Communion Incantations, only seven of them are arguably worth getting. Here are the best ones to use from the early game to the late game:

    • Dragonclaw – It’s best overall, PVE or PVP. It aggressively tears and staggers your enemies, especially those with high elemental resistance, and at the same time gives you hyperarmor. Along with its low requirements and no recovery, you can get it early on.
    • Rotten Breath – A boss-killer incantation, although you need to rely on a Spirit Ash, NPC, or Furled Finger summon to successfully cast it. With its AOE, it also staggers your enemies while inflicting them with Scarlet Rot.
    • Dragonfire – A handy incantation that’s pretty effective against enemies that are highly resistant to Scarlet Rot, but weak to Fire. Also, you can get it early on. If you’re struggling to get Crystal Tears from Erdtree or Putrid Avatars, cast Dragon Fire at them.
    • Borealis’s Mist – A way for you to deal massive Magic Damage and inflict Frostbite buildup at a faster rate without investing in Intelligence. When facing a difficult enemy, using it will give you the upper hand in the fight.
    • Ekzykes’s Decay – A stronger version of the Rotten Breath, deals more damage and inflicts Scarlet Rot buildup at a much faster rate. You can cast it mid-air as well. If you’ve yet to hunt the Ancient and Legendary Dragons, namely Lansseax and Lichdragon Fortisaxx, make sure to get it to beat them with ease.
    • Theodorix’s Magma – A stronger version of Dragonfire that leaves a large volume of magma behind. It has a wider AOE radius while dealing more Fire Damage per tick. You can also use it on horseback.
    • Greyoll’s Roar – Among the Legendary Incantations to get in Elden Ring. It deals Roar and Poise Damage to your enemies while reducing their damage and defense. It’s best to combine it with Placidusax’s Ruin.
