Earlier today, Sucker Punch put up a blog post addressing the long-standing rumors that they might be working on games for inFAMOUS and Sly Cooper. While those franchises are currently untouched, that doesn’t mean they’ll remain this way forever.
Sucker Punch is best known for franchises including not only inFAMOUS and Sly Cooper, but also Rocket: Robot on Wheels and Ghost of Tsushima. The company has been around for about 25 years now, so it would make sense that some would speculate that they would consider revisiting some of their older gems. However, Sucker Punch addressed these speculations head on today.
As our games continue to grow in scale and complexity, they require the full attention of our studio. With our focus on our current project, we have no plans to revisit inFAMOUS or Sly Cooper right now, and no other studio is currently working on projects related to those franchises either.
Though this is disheartening to hear, Sucker Punch goes on to clarify that this does not mean they will never revisit the franchises. “These characters are very special and near and dear to our hearts, so while we’d never say never to re-opening those doors down the road, for now there are no inFAMOUS or Sly Cooper games in development.”
The company acknowledges that they know people are still playing these games today, so they’re not about to leave those fans in the dust. “We know many people still play these games even today, so we’ll be performing maintenance on inFAMOUS 2 UGC servers soon to move them to a new home that will keep them up and running a bit longer.”
Sadly, they also acknowledge that they will eventually have to shut them down, but hopefully with active players remaining, we won’t see this happen for quite a while. Sucker Punch also notes that they will be working to put Cole’s Legacy DLC for inFAMOUS Second Son on the PlayStation in all territories. Previously, this was only available as part of the Collector’s Edition, so soon everyone will get to take advantage.
