Key Takeaway

You can reteach your Pokémon old moves in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet by opening the main menu, selecting a Pokémon, checking the summary, tabbing over to “Moves and Stats,” pushing “A,” and then selecting which move you want to relearn.

In Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, you can teach your Pokémon tons of new moves. However, there might come a time that you regret having a Pokémon forget one of its older moves. Luckily, it’s free to reteach them.

Teach Your Pokémon Old Moves

Slowpoke about to remember an old move.

In previous Pokémon games, reteaching your Pokémon moves they had forgotten required a little more work. Instead of move tutors, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet allows your Pokémon to relearn old moves for free. To reteach your Pokémon old moves, simply follow these steps:

  1. Open your menu by pushing “X”
  2. Select which Pokémon you want to teach an old move to
  3. Select “Check Summary”
  4. Tab over to the right on your d-pad or analog stick, to the section titled “Moves and Stats”
  5. Push “A”
  6. Select “Remember Moves”
  7. Choose which move you wish to have that Pokémon remember

This method can only be used to learn old moves, so don’t expect that you’ll be able to hop into this menu and teach your Pokémon advanced moves for its current level.
