Mega Energy is primarily used to Mega Evolve your Pokémon in Pokémon GO. Because Mega Evolved Pokémon are stronger, there are numerous ways you may want to use your Mega Evolved Pokémon:
- In Raids (also boosts other Pokémon’s strength and attack powers that share the same type with Mega Evolved Pokémon)

- As a Buddy
Your Pokémon can only be Mega Evolved for a certain amount of time and will then need to recharge.
How to Mega Evolve
To Mega Evolve a Pokémon, you simply need the required Mega Energy listed for that Pokémon. Once you pay the Mega Energy cost to Mega Evolve a Pokémon, you will not have to pay the cost to do so again, though its recharge time will depend on its Mega Evolution Level (explained later in this article).
Once you have enough Mega Energy, you would simply evolve the Pokémon like you would any other—you would just be tapping “Mega Evolve” instead of “Evolve.”
How to Get Mega Energy
The most common way to collect Mega Energy is by completing Mega Raids. The quicker you complete a Mega Raid, the more Mega Energy you will get as a reward. In addition, there are some Special Research rewards that will give you Mega Energy upon completion of the tasks. You can also get Mega Energy from Research Tasks from PokéStops or from walking with your buddy.

Mega Evolution General Bonuses
There are several bonuses for using a Pokémon that has been Mega Evolved:
- All other Pokémon attack power is increased by 10% in a Raid Battle
- Attacks that share a type with the Mega Evolved Pokémon are boosted by 30%
Note that these bonuses do not stack because you can only use one Mega Evolved Pokémon at a time.
Mega Evolution Level Bonuses
Once you have Mega Evolved a Pokémon, it will now have Mega Evolution Levels. The more times you Mega Evolve this specific Pokémon, the higher its Mega Evolution Level will be. The higher its Mega Evolution Level is, the more bonuses you can get.
For example, you can get more bonus Candies when you catch Pokémon of the same type as your Mega Evolved Pokémon, depending on its Mega Level. You also can get more XP and have an increased chance of getting Candy XL for catching Pokémon of the same type as your Mega Evolved one.
