Ubisoft has announced that it will be shutting down the servers for 15 of its classic games, including the likes of Splinter Cell: Blacklist and Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood. This will render the multiplayer unplayable on older platforms.

Starting on September 1, 2022, a number of classic Ubisoft games will have their servers shut down and, as a result, will lose access to multiplayer and some DLC. While the passage of time will always create casualties when it comes to multiplayer-focused games, the current focus of Ubisoft’s decommission list includes a number of fan-favorite franchises that haven’t received new installments in a decade or more.

A couple of the games on the list have ports to newer platforms and those updated versions will not be affected by this server shutdown. As for why this is being done, the company writes, “Closing the online services for some older games allows us to focus our resources on delivering great experiences for players who are playing newer or more popular titles.”
