According to Tez2, Red Dead Redemption 2 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S was planned at one point, but the game has since been abandoned by Rockstar Games. Also reportedly abandoned was Enhanced Rockstar Editor.
It has not been a great time to be a Red Dead Redemption fan. Earlier this month, Rockstar insider—Tez2—posted on Twitter that the Red Dead Redemption and GTA 4 remasters had been shelved. Shortly after, this was confirmed by a staff writer at Kotaku, who claimed their sources expressed the same information. Rockstar expressed that it hoped fans could put the GTA remasters behind them and simply focus on the company’s upcoming GTA 6 instead.
Shortly after Tez2 and Kotaku shared the news about the remasters, Rockstar posted an official statement about the future of GTA and Red Dead Online. Though GTA Online would receive another major update within a few weeks, Red Dead Online’s future looked bleaker. Rockstar plans to “build upon existing modes and add new Telegram Missions this year, rather than delivering major themed content updates like in previous years.”
Today, on July 7, we’ve gotten even more insight into Rockstar’s scrapped projects. This information once again comes from Tez2. They were asked on Twitter, “I guess it’s safe to say that Red Dead Redemption II will never get a PS5/Xbox Series X/S release either?” To this, Tez2 responded with, “Yes. I’ve heard about those a long time ago. As well as their plan to come up with an Enhanced Rockstar Editor. All cancelled/halted by now.”
Though this isn’t an official statement by Rockstar, the source has proven themselves to be reliable numerous times regarding the company’s past plans and projects.
