There are multiple ways to sit down in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. But whether you want to sit on a chair or on the ground, you’ll need to know the process for making that happen.

How to Sit on a Chair
To place a chair or bench, perform the following actions:
- Open your inventory menu by pressing “X”
- Select the item you wish to place by highlighting it and pressing “A”
- Choose “Place Item”
Once your chair or bench is placed, just walk against it, and your character will automatically sit down.
How to Sit on the Ground
Sitting on the ground is a bit more complicated than sitting in a chair. You cannot sit on the ground in Animal Crossing: New Horizons without first purchasing The Hip Reaction Collection from the Nook Stop. To get this, you’ll need to select “Redeem Nook Miles” at the Nook Stop. You need 2,700 Nook Miles to complete this purchase. Once you’ve purchased this, you will automatically have learned the reaction to sit on the ground.
To actually sit down on the ground, perform the following steps:
- Press “ZR” to bring up your Reactions menu
- Press “Y” to see all Reactions
- Find one titled “Sit Down” and press “A”
