This past week, writer Mary DeMarle announced that she has joined EA/BioWare as its Senior Narrative Director. DeMarle’s previous credits include writing for Eidos Montreal’s Deus Ex titles and last year’s Guardians of the Galaxy.

DeMarle broke the news on Friday that she would be starting a new position for EA/BioWare. While her post was light on details, it is assumed that she will be contributing to Dragon Age Dreadwolf and the upcoming Mass Effect sequel that was announced back in December 2020. DeMarle’s background includes both fantasy and sci-fi projects as she contributed to Myst III: Exile, Myst IV: Revelation, and the aforementioned Deus Ex titles as well as Homeworld 2. With a career spanning nearly 30 years, she has racked up quite a few credits on titles both big and small.
This news comes just a few months after Embracer announced it was set to acquire Crystal Dynamics, Eidos Montreal, Square Enix Montreal, and a number of legacy IPs from Square Enix. It’s not too far of a stretch to believe the two events are related, though at least DeMarle will continue her work in the industry.
Dragon Lord
BioWare’s future is mostly unknown aside from the new Dragon Age and Mass Effect games. Anthem is still trekking along, but there haven’t been any big updates to that game for months now. It seems unlikely that DeMarle would contribute to Anthem, especially since fan reception to the game is mixed at the best of times. With her LinkedIn page mentioning EA, she could also wind up working on Star Wars projects. We can only speculate for the time being.
