During Nintendo’s Direct Mini: Partner Showcase on June 28, 2022, Bandai Namco announced a remake of the PS1 platformer Pac-Man World for modern platforms. Coming with updated visuals and some other undisclosed enhancements, we now have the first footage of the game running on Switch hardware. Nintendo Everything was present at Anime Expo 2022 in Los Angeles this weekend and was able to obtain roughly five minutes of footage. There isn’t much to go on as the Bandai Namco representatives were showcasing earlier segments of the game.
New Features
While not explicitly shown in the footage, Bandai Namco was able to confirm a few extra details about Pac-Man World Re-Pac. One of the biggest is that the boss fights have been tweaked to be more engaging. There are also some quality-of-life changes that prevent Pac-Man from unceremoniously falling off ledges. Another tweak in general platforming is that Pac-Man now has a hover jump. This was added to help newcomers avoid frustration and potentially prevent missing jumps.
Overall, things don’t seem to be deviating too much from what made the original Pac-Man World so captivating for fans. With only a few months to go until Re-Pac launches on August 26, 2022, fans should have their fears assuaged by this new footage. Pac-Man World Re-Pac will be hitting PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
