Pokémon GO Update to Include Anti-Cheat Measures, New Languages, Events, and More

Niantic has released the details on their Pokémon GO content update for August. The update will include information on Pokémon GO Fest, the next Community Day, other events, Raids, anti-cheat measures, language selection, and more.

    Community Day

    The Pokémon GO Community Day for August will take place on August 13, 2022. For this event, Galarian Zigzagoon will be appearing in the wild. You can check out more about the featured Special Attack, Special Research, and Event Bonuses that go along with the Community Day here.

    Other Events

    In addition to the Community Day, we will be seeing some other events taking place this August in the world of Pokémon GO.

    Bug Out!

    Bug Pokémon will be making a return from Wednesday, August 10, 2022, to Tuesday, August 16, 2022. If you want to catch more bug Pokémon, this will be your best chance.

    2022 Pokémon World Championships Event

    The 2022 Pokémon World Championships will feature Pokémon GO for the very first time. To celebrate this, Niantic is holding an in-game celebration from Thursday, August 18, 2022, to Tuesday, August 23, 2022. No more details have been given at this time, but more should be coming soon.

    Pokémon GO Fest

    There are several different Pokémon GO Fests taking place in the month of August.

    Pokémon GO Fest: Sapporo

    Pokémon GO Fest: Sapporo will be taking place from Friday, August 5, 2022, to Sunday, August 7, 2022 in Sapporo, Japan. You can find out more information and purchase tickets here.

    Pokémon GO Fest 2022: Finale

    Niantic has not yet released the details on Pokémon GO Fest 2022: Finale. All we know so far is that it will be taking place on August 27, and more details should be coming soon.

    Anti-Cheat Measures

    Niantic will be enforcing some new anti-cheat measures. Specifically, they state that they are “ramping up enforcement against these behaviors across [their] games and rolling out [their] improved approach to anti-cheat.” So far, this simply means they are taking action against numerous accounts they’ve found to violate their rules, but they promise more action will soon follow.


    As always, new Pokémon will be featured in raids for the month of August.

    • Mega Slowbro (Thursday, August 18, 2022, to Thursday, August 25, 2022)

    Language Selection

    Coming up in August, trainers will be able to change their language selection in Pokémon GO. The following languages will be available:
