The most recent Nintendo Direct showcased numerous aspects of the upcoming Xenoblade Chronicles 3. We were able to get a look at the main characters, gameplay, classes, new ability, expansion pass, and more through this presentation.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is set to launch on July 29, 2022 on the Nintendo Switch. Since today’s Nintendo Direct was geared specifically towards Xenoblade Chronicles 3, we learned a lot about the features of this upcoming game.

    Main Characters

One of the most exciting aspects during today’s Nintendo Direct was the showcase of the six main characters. We learned that the world in Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is split between two main nations in conflict with each other: Agnus and Keves. Our six main characters come from two parties of opposing sides in this conflict, but ultimately end up working together.

    • Noah: an off-seer trusted deeply by his allies
    • Eunie: brash and blunt, but delicate at her core
    • Lanz: a burly brawler built for up-close combat
    • Mio: a kind and compassionate off-seer
    • Taion: a quick-thinking battle tactician
    • Sena: small in stature but has a giant’s strength

Additionally, you will be able to use one extra hero of your choice among those you recruit along the way. However, you may only use one extra hero at a time in addition to your core party.

    New Ability (Interlinking)

We also learned today that there will be a new ability in Xenoblade Chronicles 3 called “Interlinking.” This ability will allow two of your party members to fuse together to create an Ouroboros. The Ouroboros’ ability is dependent on which characters you choose to fuse together. This will essentially be a way to unleash an extremely strong attack before your characters morph back into their original states.

    Battle System and Classes

The Xenoblade Chronicles 3 showcase today also highlighted specific classes that will be included in the game:

    • Swordfighter: Attacker Class—well-balanced
    • Zephr: Defender class—evade attacks and unleash powerful counters
    • Medic Gunner: Healer class—restore ally HP and aid them from far away
    • Tactician: Healer class—disrupt enemies and support allies
    • Heavy Guard: Defender class—wield massive weapons to defend allies and draw enemy attacks
    • Ogre: Attacker Class—massive power can crush enemy defenses

It’s noted that you will be able to change your classes around during the game. Additionally, you will want to have characters learn multiple classes for the most effective team. You can learn Master Arts, which are abilities you can add to any class of your choosing. This allows you some customization in how you want to structure your team. You can also use Fusion Arts, combining several different Arts into one for even stronger attacks.
