Acquiring platinum trophies on the Playstation is something completionists deal with for the sake of bragging rights, self-gratification, and most importantly, their own enjoyment. Getting the platinum trophies for these 25 games on the PS4 is particularly more difficult than others.

When it comes to these platinum trophies, the experience can turn from gratifying to frustrating very fast. However, that doesn’t stop completionists from going out of their way to earn that famed achievement.

MLB: The Show 19

A cover of MLB The Show 19.

When thinking about playing sports games, most people see a picture of a relaxing, enjoyable time had with friends and other players online. However, for trophy hunters and completionists, this is far from the case when it comes to MLB: The Show 19.

There’s one particular trophy that acts as the main hurdle to the game’s platinum trophy, and that’s the Welcome to the Chip trophy. This one requires you to get an 800 rank on Ranked Seasons.

To get an 800 rank, not only do you have to allot an ungodly amount of time playing online, but you also need to be incredibly skilled. This is because of how the game’s rank system works. Your rank is dependent on both winning and losing. Your rank increases when you win and it decreases when you don’t.

After you reach a rank of 400, the amount of which your rank drops after each loss is significantly increased.

The most skilled MLB players are able to acquire this trophy after about 50 to 100 games. But some players have gone as far as 400 games without even getting close to the 800 rank.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2

A cover of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 is a remaster of the first two Tony Hawk games which were released in 1999 and 2000. A lot of players who loved the game and newcomers to the series alike found a lot of things to enjoy in the remaster. Trophy hunters, on the other hand, found a challenge they needed to overcome.

One of the most challenging trophies to acquire in the game is the Got There trophy. It will require players to complete all 19 Hard Get-Theres in the game, which is a series of challenges that has you string a multitude of tricks as you skate from one area to another, while successfully landing everything.

This might sound simple, but it’s actually way easier said than done. As mentioned, there are 19 of these challenges. All of them are defined as “hard” but certain ones are definitely way harder than the others.

This is just one hurdle you’ll need to overcome if you want to achieve the game’s platinum trophy. For instance, there’s also one where you’ll need to earn a high score of over 10 million points.

Bloodborne

Bloodborne cover.

One of FromSoftware’s most beloved titles, Bloodborne is a treat and an enormously challenging experience for players, and more so for completionists.

The trickiest aspect of acquiring Bloodborne’s platinum trophy is the fact that you’ll need to defeat a boss named Yharnam, Pthumerian Queen. Fighting the boss itself isn’t the challenge here, it’s the process of getting to her.

To fight Yharnam, you’ll need to go through a series of Chalice Dungeons. These dungeons get progressively tougher as you get closer to Yharnam. Not only that, but you’ll also need to visit other dungeons to get the proper ritual materials to enter the dungeons you need to enter to eventually get to Yharnam.

With the game being as difficult as it is, this task is most certainly one that can give players a reason to chuck their controllers at their screens.

Cuphead

Cuphead cover.

Beating Cuphead normally once is already a challenge on its own. If you want to acquire its platinum trophy, you’ll need to beat the game at least twice, one for each difficulty.

First off, you’ll need to beat every boss in the game, which is already a difficult thing to do. Then, you’ll need to do the same feat, but this time, you’ll need to beat every boss while getting no less than an A-Rank in one of those playthroughs.

Then, you’ll then need to complete the game in Expert mode.

One trophy also requires you to complete a level without getting hit once. These are just three requirements, but these are all you need to know how difficult it is to get this game’s platinum trophy.

The Evil Within

The Evil Within cover.

The Evil Within is harrowing and terrifying, yet considerably enjoyable, especially to those who are fans of the horror genre.

This game’s trophy list is remarkably basic. Beat the game in each difficulty, obtain every collectible, fully upgrade all attributes, etc. You also have a couple of challenge trophies such as not killing a single enemy while completing a level, or killing certain enemies in specific ways.

While a lot of the trophies in the game aren’t a walk in the park to acquire, one of them is the true challenge that stands between you and the platinum trophy.

The “You Asked For It” trophy requires you to beat the game’s Akumu mode. With this mode, you die after a single hit. Whether you get hit by an enemy or get damaged by an environmental obstacle of any kind, you get sent back to the checkpoint.

Dragon Ball FighterZ

Dragon Ball FighterZ cover.

Dragon Ball FighterZ is a fun action-fighting game. It’s a game you’ll most especially appreciate if you’re a fan of the manga or the anime.

The game should be substantially enjoyable to you if you play it normally. Beat the story, play matches with friends, and challenge other players online. However, if your goal is to get the game’s platinum trophy on the PS4, the challenge you’ll face is going to be significantly harder.

You’ll need to be both skilled and patient if you want to earn the game’s platinum. There are two trophies in the game that will require you to pour hundreds upon hundreds of hours into the game.

One of them is called the “My Power Level is 530,000” trophy. That number refers to your BP, or Battle Points. You earn battle points by defeating players online. You can either earn about a few hundred BPs with each win or a couple thousand if you perform really well during a fight. Get 530,000 BPs and you’ll receive the trophy.

To get there as fast as you can, you’ll want to win as much as you can. This is because you also lose BP if you lose an online match.

The other, and the hardest trophy to achieve in the game is the “Set for Life” trophy. Some might even say that it borders on the unreasonable. To get this trophy, you’ll need to earn a total of 20 million Zenis, the game’s currency.

You can acquire Zenis by completing Story Mode arcs and playing online. For the latter option, you can earn about 500 to a thousand Zenis per match. That said, you’ll need to play about 20,000 to 40,000 matches if you want to earn enough Zenis to get this achievement.

Players have found an exploit within the game that rewards you with about 5,000 to 6,000 Zeni in about a minute. Even with this exploit, you’ll still need to allocate more than 65 hours while just doing the exploit to get to 20 million.

There’s another exploit that should allow you to earn more Zenis with minimal effort. When there’s an event in-game that comes with a free Zeni reward, you must simply attempt to join an online lobby while your console isn’t connected to the internet. This will give you the opportunity to essentially acquire an infinite amount of Zeni in just a few minutes.

This is the trophy’s only saving grace. This exploit, however, is purely circumstantial. You’ll need to rely on the game to hand out free Zenis. Otherwise, you have to take the longer, more tedious route.

Yakuza 3

Yakuza 3 cover.

Yakuza 3, like all the games in its series, is abundant in content. Aside from the main progression, there are a plethora of things that you can do in the game. There are sub-stories and mini-games that will keep you immersed for hours on end.

If you’re a trophy hunter, you will need to experience every single thing the game has to offer. This is by no means a difficult endeavor. In fact, this can be immensely fun to do. You will, however, need to spend hundreds of hours in the game to get its platinum trophy.

Make no mistake, though. Getting Yakuza 3‘s platinum trophy still requires a fair amount of skill. But patience is the more important trait to have here.

Dark Souls

Dark Souls cover.

The second FromSoftware game on this list, but that shouldn’t really surprise anybody at this point. Dark Souls is a difficult game. This is a fact every gamer in the world knows.

Achieving the game’s platinum trophy means exploring its nook and crannies. You’ll need to find every spell, every rare weapon, fight almost every single boss, and discover every covenant. To complete these things, you’ll need to beat the game at least two times.

Beating the game itself is a feat that requires patience and skill. And acquiring its platinum trophy requires a mastery of them.

Back 4 Blood

Back 4 Blood cover.

Back 4 Blood is a game that places emphasis on cooperative play. The same can be said for acquiring its platinum trophies. A lot of people are already wary of trophies that require you to go online, but that’s not why acquiring this game’s platinum is considered difficult.

To get to the platinum trophy, you’ll need to beat the game at least twice. Once at Veteran difficulty, and the second at Nightmare difficulty. The final difficulty setting pushes how hard the game can be to extreme extents.

One of the trophies in the game called “Good Riddence!” requires you to kill over 53,600 Ridden in the game. Even after you beat the game twice, you’ll only reach half of that number, and that’s being generous.

This is on top of farming items and collectibles, discovering secrets, and dealing with certain enemies in a specific way.

Diablo II: Resurrected

Diablo II: Resurrected cover.

Obtaining the platinum trophy for Diablo II: Resurrected: isn’t necessarily difficult. It is, however, an incredibly long grind. To achieve the game’s top trophy, you’ll need to put a lot of hours into the game.

Current approximations estimate that you’ll need to put in at least a thousand hours into the game if you want to get its platinum trophy. You’ll also need to replay the game about 21 times to get there.

If you’re simply playing the game casually, you’ll easily be able to put in a thousand hours to an enormous game like Diablo II: Resurrected. However, if you’re actively seeking out the platinum trophy, you’ll need to play the game with different difficulties, you’ll need to reach level 99, and so much more.

Wipeout Omega Collection

Wipeout Omega Collection cover.

Getting the platinum trophy for Wipeout Omega Collection seems fairly straightforward at the beginning. Its trophy list contains standard requirements. They’re exactly what you expect from PlayStation trophies.

That is until you encounter the “Beat Zico: HD” trophy.

To get this trophy, you’ll need to beat the record of this Zico person on Anuplha Pass (Forward), Speed Lap, Venom, using the Piranha.

Zico’s time sits at about 30.82 seconds, which is incredibly difficult to beat. You’ll need to be near perfect at this run to equal or beat that time.

Final Fantasy IX

Final Fantasy IX cover.

Out of all the games in the Final Fantasy series, Final Fantasy has got to have the most difficult platinum trophy to acquire. It’s also difficult enough to even be one of the hardest platinum trophies to get on the PS4 to this day.

Playing Final Fantasy IX is an enjoyable experience. Acquiring its platinum trophy, on the other hand, is a tad more exhausting. Almost half of the game’s trophies are missable. So unless you know exactly what you’re doing from the beginning, there’s a very high chance that you’ll be playing the game multiple times to get every single trophy.

Even if you follow a specific path to acquire every single trophy, you’ll still need to play the game three times to get the platinum. A lot of it will also require you to grind for hours on end. One of them requires you to kill 10,000 enemies.

You won’t be able to face, let alone kill, 10,000 enemies even after playing the game three times. You’ll need to go out there, purposefully seek out a large number of enemies, and kill them repeatedly to get this number. At the least, you’ll spend about 15 to 20 hours doing this alone.

There’s one trophy a lot of people have also considered to be immensely difficult to acquire, and that’s the “Hail to the King” trophy. This one will require you to jump rope 1,000 times in a row, without fail.

This requires familiarization and patience. Not only do you have to do this 1,000 times in a row, but you also have to adjust to the gradually increasing speed at which you’ll need to make the jumps.

I Am Bread

I Am Bread cover.

I Am Bread is a game that lets you control a slice of bread. That’s all you really need to know.

The game is very comical in nature. It’s the type of game you play to make you laugh for a few hours before moving on to playing or doing something else. However, it’s also been criticized for its terrible controls.

That reason is exactly why it’s so hard to get this game’s platinum trophy.

While the game is very short and there are only a few trophies for you to earn, you’ll also need to earn an A++ rating on every level. This requires precision and mastery of the game’s mechanics, which is asking a lot.

Play the game and try to get an A++ rating on any level. You’ll be amazed at how immensely difficult it is to do so.

Hollow Knight

Hollow Knight cover.

Hollow Knight is Team Cherry’s magnum opus. It’s a gorgeous-looking game with considerable challenges in terms of platforming and combat.

With time and skill, any gamer can beat Hollow Knight. However, if you want to earn the game’s platinum trophy, you’ll need to go the extra mile.

The one thing that really stands in the player’s way of earning this game’s platinum trophy is the final pantheon at the end of the Godmaster DLC. This pantheon requires you to beat 42 bosses in succession, including the most difficult bosses in the game. Die once and you’ll get sent back at the very beginning.

You’ll need to play perfectly in order to do this. This requires an immense amount of time to practice, as well as the patience to do so.

Injustice: Gods Among Us

Injustice: Gods Among Us cover.

Injustice: Gods Among Us is a game DC Comics and fighting games fans have enjoyed greatly. It has a great roster of characters for you to choose from and its combat system is fairly decent.

The game has local matches, online play, and a story mode. If you want to earn the game’s platinum trophy, you’ll have to spend a whole lot of time doing all three, and more.

The game has rigorous trophies such as playing 200 online matches and winning over 100 of them. One also requires you to reach level 100, which needs over 50 million XPs.

To give you a picture of how difficult this is to do, the maximum amount of XP you get for completing a challenge is 5,000. The most XP you’ll get from a match is about 3,000 to 5,000, and that’s being generous.

However, that’s not the hardest trophy to get in this game before platinum. Your greatest hurdle to the platinum trophy is the “World’s Finest” trophy. You’ll need to complete all S.T.A.R. Lab Missions and get 3 stars from each of them to get this one.

There are about 300 S.T.A.R. Lab Missions in the game, although you don’t need to do the DLC missions, that still leaves you with over 240 of them.

Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time

Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time cover.

Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time is a fun platforming game. However, any fun you normally have with this game will deteriorate slowly and surely if your goal is to get the game’s platinum trophy.

It is enormously tedious to get this game’s platinum. First of all, you’ll need to achieve a 106% completion. To do so, you’ll need to collect every gem and every relic. You’ll also need to earn a Platinum Time for every Time Trial Relics.

In essence, you’ll need to play the game perfectly to get the game’s platinum trophy, and that’s not something that happens in just a few hours.

Gran Turismo Sport

Gran Turismo Sport cover.

Gran Turismo Sport is a racing game that gives you a taste of what it’s like to be a professional racer. Some professional racers have dedicated years of their lives to become as skilled as they are now. You may have to dedicate the same amount of time to get this game’s platinum trophy.

That’s hyperbole, of course, but what’s not hyperbole is the fact that getting this game’s platinum trophy is excruciating. One of the most difficult things you’ll need to do to get the trophy is to reach level 50.

It’s a breeze getting from level 1 to about level 30, but leveling up from there becomes enormously slow. You’ll need to do and win hundreds, if not thousands of races just to get there.

You’ll also need to earn 1,000,000 Drift Points to get one trophy, which, while not as tedious as reaching level 50, also requires a long amount of time to get.

These are just two of the things you’ll need to do to get the game’s platinum trophy. You’ll also need to buy every single car in the game, record 65 pole positions, and more.

Wolfenstein II

Wolfenstein II cover.

The platinum trophy for Wolfenstein II is one of the most difficult ones to get on the PS4 for one reason: the “Mein leben” trophy.

This trophy requires you to play the difficulty of the same name. This sets the game’s difficulty at its hardest, but that’s not all. This difficulty setting also gives the game a “permadeath” feature. What this means is that if you die once, you get sent back to the beginning of the game.

You won’t be able to save the game, and once again, it’s set at the highest difficulty. This means you’ll need to be perfect at the game to get this trophy.

If you’re already incredibly skilled at games like Wolfenstein, this will only be slightly challenging for you. However, those who aren’t will need to spend hours and hours practicing, memorizing enemy placements, and more.

Devil May Cry 5

Devil May Cry 5 cover.

Devil May Cry 5 may not be the hardest Devil May Cry game, but its platinum trophy is definitely the most difficult one to get. Its main hurdle is similar to the Wolfenstein II platinum trophy, but with an added challenge.

To say that the added aspect is a mere “challenge” is honestly an understatement because the “Worthy of Legend” trophy requires you to clear all missions with an S rank on all difficulties except for Heaven or Hell.

This includes the Hell or Hell difficulty, in which the enemies are incredibly aggressive and you die in one hit. Remember, to get this trophy, you’ll also need to get an S rank on all missions. Not only should you avoid getting hit, but you’ll also need to be flashy and skilled enough to get S rank.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2

Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 cover.

To get the platinum trophy for Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2, you’ll need to be no less than a master of the game. You’ll need to do things such as reach 100 hits in one combo, kill 1,000 enemies each using Obliteration Techniques, Ultimate Techniques, Izuna Drop, and Guillotine Throw, and kill 1,000 enemies each for all weapon types.

That’s not all. You’ll also need to beat the game on all difficulties and kill 1,000 enemies for each character.

There are also trophies tied to team missions. While you can have AIs play with you, best believe that they won’t be enough. Given how difficult the game is, especially at the hardest difficulties, the game literally asks for not one but four players who are masters of the game.

To do all of these things and more, you’ll need to play and beat the game at least 7 times.

The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth

The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth cover.

The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth is a roguelike game that’s notorious for having an incredibly difficult to get platinum trophy. To give you a glimpse of how difficult it is to get this game’s platinum trophy, you’ll need to play and beat the game about a hundred times.

Although, you can successfully finish one playthrough in only 30 minutes if you’re efficient. But that still leaves you at about 150 hours to do everything you need to get the trophy.

You’ll essentially need to beat certain bosses multiple times, play as every character in the game, and complete the boss rush mode with every character. There are over 34 playable characters in the game.

Super Meat Boy

Super Meat Boy cover.

Super Meat Boy is made by the same developer who made The Binding of Isaac. Considering this, it comes as no surprise that this game’s platinum trophy is also incredibly difficult to get.

On top of earning a 100% completion on the game, you’ll also need to earn an A+ rank in all levels. Then, you’ll need to beat every level in both light and dark worlds without dying. While it’s easy to do this on light mode, dark mode kicks things up a notch.

Those are the things you need to do to get one of the most difficult platinum trophies on the PS4.

The Elder Scrolls Online

The Elder Scrolls Online cover.

The platinum trophy for Elden Scrolls Online is so hard that less than 1% of its player base has acquired it. What’s amazing is that this can be attributed to one trophy only, and that’s the “Emperor!” trophy.

To get this trophy, you’ll need to become the Emperor of Tamriel once. This is no easy feat. You essentially need to be the number one player in your alliance and you’ll need to capture all the keeps around the Imperial City.

If this sounds simple, it’s not. Your alliance needs to be strong enough not only to capture but also to hold all keeps. Not to mention the skill and time it will take to be the number one player in your alliance.

Street Fighter V

Street Fighter V cover.

To get the platinum trophy for Street Fighter V, you’ll need to be the kind of player who’s capable of playing the game professionally. That’s not a joke. You sincerely need to be that good that you’re able to compete in a tournament against the best players of the game in the world.

While you’ll need to play the game’s story mode to earn certain trophies, you’ll be spending most of your time playing online to get the platinum. You’ll need to win a total of 300 matches in all to get closer to the platinum.

Then, you’ll need to raise the level of one character to 30. This will take a whole lot of time to complete, and a whole lot of online matches to win.

Finally, you’ll need to enter the Gold League to get the “Let’s fight someone strong!” trophy. You’ll need to acquire more than 4,000 League Points for this. This is very difficult to do for two reasons.

One, you only get around 50 to 60 LPs when you win a match. You also lose about half of that when you lose. This means you’ll statistically need to have more wins than losses to eventually have 4,000 LPs.

Not to mention, the more you acquire LPs, the higher your league will be. When you get to higher leagues, you’ll be faced off against tougher enemies online.

That said, you literally have to be one of the best Street Fighter V players in the world to get to the Gold League. Thus, you have to be one of the best players of the game in the world to get its platinum trophy.

Crypt of the Necrodancer

Crypt of the Necrodancer cover.

There is no other game on this planet that’s harder to platinum than Crypt of the Necrodancer. It’s almost evil how challenging it is.

On top of your most basic requirements, here are the absurd things you’ll need to do to get this game’s platinum trophy.

After you beat the game once, you’ll need to beat it again without dying. Oh, and you need to do so with every character.

Then, you’ll need to win 10 times in a row as Cadence in Deathless Mode. When playing this mode, the playthrough doesn’t end until you die. You’ll need to have 10 wins successively to get a trophy.

It’s not over yet. The next thing you’ll need to do is to beat the game using all characters, in a row, without dying. There are nine characters in the game. Good luck.

Once you’ve done that tremendous task, you must then complete the All Zones Mode while playing as Coda. When you play as this character, you’ll have to play perfectly. Any mistake will kill you in an instant.

After doing all of that, there’s one last hurdle left to overcome. You must now beat the game again using every character, totaling another nine playthroughs, without dying, and without using any items and shrines. This means you’re not able to make your character stronger nor are you allowed to heal.

If you can somehow do all of that, then congratulations. You’ll be among a very exclusive group. To this day, out of the tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of players who have played this game on the PS4, only less than 20 players have acquired this immaculate platinum trophy.
