Types of Eeveelutions
Eevee can evolve into eight different Pokémon—Flareon, Jolteon, Vaporeon, Espeon, Umbreon, Glaceon, Leafeon, and Sylveon. Each of these Pokémon have unique stats, skill sets, and appearances, so you’ll need to weigh your options before deciding which one you’d like to get.
How to Evolve Eevee Into Flareon
First Time Only: Rename Method
If you’ve never evolved an Eevee into a Flareon before, there is a guaranteed way to do so. Note that this method will not work more than one time for each Eeveelution. To get Flareon, simply rename your Eevee “Pyro.” Once you have renamed your Eevee and collected the required 25 Eevee Candies, your Eevee is guaranteed to evolve into Flareon.
After the renaming method has been used, you can only get Flareon by evolving an Eevee with 25 Candies and hoping for the best. Without any tampering, Eevee will automatically evolve into either Flareon, Jolteon, or Vaporeon.
How to Evolve Eevee Into Jolteon
First Time Only: Rename Method
Like with Flareon, you simply need 25 Eevee Candies to evolve Eevee into Jolteon. Rename your Eevee “Sparky,” and it will be guaranteed to evolve into Jolteon the first time this method is used. As is the case with Flareon, you can only evolve future Eevees into Jolteon by evolving Eevee at random and hoping for a Jolteon.
How to Evolve Eevee Into Vaporeon
First Time Only: Rename Method
You can rename your Eevee “Rainer,” and it will be guaranteed to evolve into Vaporeon the first time you use this method. Since this only works once, you will need to evolve future Eevees at random in hopes of getting another Vaporeon.
How to Evolve Eevee Into Espeon
First Time Only: Rename Method
The first time you evolve your Eevee into an Espeon, you can rename the Eevee “Sakura” to guarantee you get the Espeon. This requires 25 Eevee Candies. Note that as with the original trio, this method can only be used one time.
The Walking Method
After you’ve exhausted the renaming method, there is another way you get Espeon. Simply perform the following steps, and you will be guaranteed another Espeon:
- Set the Eevee you want to evolve as your Buddy
- Walk 10km with your Buddy and earn two Eevee Candies
- Evolve the Eevee during the day to get Espeon
Note that a GPS signal is required for this method to work, as time of day is determined based on your phone’s GPS.
How to Evolve Eevee Into Umbreon
First Time Only: Rename Method
The renaming method also works for evolving your Eevee into Umbreon. Simply collect your 25 Eevee Candies, and then rename your Eevee “Tamao.” Once you evolve it, your Eevee will definitely turn into an Umbreon the first time.
The Walking Method
Once the renaming method has been used, you’ll need to adopt a different approach to getting an Umbreon. Follow these steps to ensure your success:
- Set the Eevee you want to evolve as your Buddy
- Walk 10km with your Buddy and earn two Eevee Candies
- Evolve the Eevee during the night to get Umbreon
Note that a GPS signal is required for this method to work, as time of day is determined based on your phone’s GPS.
How to Evolve Eevee Into Glaceon
First Time Only: Rename Method
Even the newest Eeveelutions can be obtained through the notorious renaming method. If you’re looking to get Glaceon for the first time, rename your Eevee “Rea” before evolving it. After you get your 25 Eevee Candies, the Eevee will successfully evolve into a Glaceon.
The Lure Method
The other method used to guarantee Eevee’s evolution into Glaceon is simple. Once you’ve used up the renaming method, purchase a Glacial Lure Module from the Shop in Pokémon GO for 180 Coins if you don’t have one already. Once you have your 25 Eevee Candies ready, activate this Lure, and choose to evolve your Eevee. This will guarantee it evolves into a Glaceon.
How to Evolve Eevee Into Leafeon
First Time Only: Rename Method
To guarantee your first Leafeon, simply rename your Eevee “Linnea.” With your 25 Eevee Candies, evolve your Eevee after this rename, and it will transform into a Leafeon the first time.
The Lure Method
Just like with Glaceon, you can purchase a Lure from the Shop to guarantee Eevee’s evolution into Leafeon. This time, you’ll want to purchase the Mossy Lure Module for 180 Coins. When you have your 25 Eevee Candies ready, active the Mossy Lure and evolve it. This will guarantee a Leafeon.
How to Evolve Eevee Into Sylveon
First Time Only: Rename Method
Finally, you can also rename your Eevee to guarantee its evolution into Sylveon. If you rename your Eevee “Kira” and evolve it with your 25 Eevee Candies, you will get Sylveon the first time.
The Buddy Method
To guarantee an Eeveelution into Sylveon once the renaming method has been used, you need to become Great Buddies with your Eevee. You must set the Eevee you wish to evolve as your Buddy, and then earn 70 Hearts with it. You can earn Buddy Hearts by feeding your Buddy berries, taking snapshots of your Buddy, petting your Buddy, and battling with them. Once you become Great Buddies with Eevee and have the 25 Eevee Candies ready, you can evolve it into Sylveon.
