Jump to the Rhythm
Yesterday evening, the hit indie rhythm roguelike game Crypt of the NecroDancer received some surprise DLC in the form of the Synchrony expansion. Adding three new characters, online co-op and competitive multiplayer, official mod support, and a slew of new enemies, items, shrines, and balance fixes, it felt almost like a sequel unto itself. Developer Brace Yourself Games wasn’t content with unleashing just an expansion, however. At the end of the announcement trailer, fans are treated to the logo for Rift of the NecroDancer, an upcoming standalone game set within the NecroDancer universe.
If you’re interested in grabbing Synchrony, it is currently available on Steam for $6.29 alongside a sale on the base game. There are no details about when this will be coming to consoles, but it should make the jump before Rift is released. It seems unlikely that mod support will be added to the console versions, but there are more than enough new features to keep even the most dedicated players happy for the foreseeable future.
Rift Apart
Details of this sequel are basically non-existent at the moment. PC Gamer had reached out for some additional details but was met with silence. It’s obviously far too early for Brace Yourself Games to give up the ghost, but it stands to reason that Rift will play similarly to Crypt. It likely will feature a new cast tackling a different evil instead of being a direct continuation of Crypt.
Thankfully, the amount of new stuff in Synchrony will ensure that you’re sufficiently occupied until more information is made available.
