Publisher 505 Games and developer ArtPlay have announced this past week that Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night will be getting a free update that adds content from thatgamecompany’s critically acclaimed platformer Journey. Launching on August 23 as part of version 1.4 patch, the update will add a section to the castle called “The Tunnels” that features imagery and enemies from Journey. The entrance to this new area will be hidden behind a secret wall and will require specific shard abilities to access.

The steps required to access this area will be fairly straightforward. You’ll need to progress through the main game to the point where you have freed Gebel and unlocked the “Den of Behemoths.” While not contained within that section, this new Journey area will have its doorway marked on the map for you to discover. For those wondering about achievements or trophies, all progress in this area will not affect map completion percentage and is more of a fun bonus.

As well as bonus content, version 1.4 will pack a series of bug fixes that should make the game smoother. The biggest change here is a fix for commands not being displayed properly when using custom controller configurations. There is also a fix for the timestamp error on the Nintendo Switch port. It’s not a massive patch by any means, but then Bloodstained has been out for a few years now. The game is in a healthy state.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is available now on PC, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Stadia, iOS, and Android.
