Key Takeaway

If you can’t summon spirits in Elden Ring despite having a Spirit Calling Bell, it may be because there is no rebirth monument in the area, the spirit you’re trying to summon has an FP cost that exceeds your FP, you’ve summoned a cooperator, or you’ve already summoned a spirit once.

There are multiple reasons why you can’t summon in Elden Ringdespite already having the Spirit Calling Bell. This is to no complete fault of your own. The game has a tendency of being vague with its mechanics, after all.

There Are No Rebirth Monuments Around

Your ability to use the Spirit Calling Bell, and thus summon Spirit Ashes in Elden Ring, is tied to rebirth monuments. They’re these small stone obelisks found all throughout the Lands Between.

Most of the time, these monuments can be found around boss rooms, forts, and other areas of interest. If a place contains too many enemies, there’s a chance there’s a rebirth monument around.

You should see a monument icon appear on the left side of your screen once you’re close to a rebirth monument.

If there is no rebirth monument in the area, that should be why you can’t summon your Spirit Ashes.

    Your FP Isn’t Enough

    Summon Spirits in Elden Ring.

Spirit Ashes require a certain amount of FPs to be summoned. The only exception to this is the Mimic Tear Ashes, which consumes 660 HP instead.

If you already have the Spirit Calling Bell and there’s a rebirth monument around, it could be that the Spirt Ash you’re trying to summon has an FP cost that’s higher than you have.

Some Spirit Ashes in Elden Ring, especially the stronger ones, require a significant amount of FP to be summoned. For example, Black Knife Tiche requires 132 FP, whereas the Spirit Jellyfish only requires 31.

If your FP is below 132, you won’t be able to summon the Black Knife Tiche.

Refer to the Status menu to see how much FP you have. Raise your Mind stat to concurrently raise your FP.

    You’ve Summoned A Cooperator

    Co-op in Elden Ring.

If you’re playing online and you’ve summoned cooperators, otherwise known as Furled Fingers, your ability to summon spirits is locked out.

After the cooperator returns to their world, be sure to deactivate your Furlcalling Finger Remedy. You won’t be able to summon Spirit Ashes as long as this is active.

You’ve Already Summoned A Spirit Ash

If you’ve already summoned a spirit and its health completely depletes, you won’t be able to summon another in that area. You’ll only be able to summon spirits again after resting at a Site of Grace, after dying, or when you arrive at another location with a new rebirth monument.
