The Wolf School gear is one of the armor sets in The Witcher 3 that’s dedicated to a specific Witcher school. With Geralt being a part of the School of the Wolf, this armor set is naturally perfect for him. Like the other Witcher School gears, obtaining these is a lengthy endeavor.

Start the Scavenger Hunt: Wolf School Gear
Start the Scavenger Hunt: Wolf School Gear to have the diagrams for the armor pieces, along with the Wolven Steel Sword and Silver Sword appear on the map. This will make finding the diagrams much easier moving forward.
To start the hunt for the diagrams, you’ll first need to purchase the “Slightly torn notes by Hieronymus on the witcher Elgar” from the blacksmith in Lindenvale in Velen. Alternatively, you can also purchase it from Eibhear Hattori in Novigrad. However, before you can purchase items from him and have him craft items for you, you’ll first need to finish his side quest, “Of Swords and Dumplings”.
That being said, the Scavenger Hunt isn’t necessary to find the Wolf School gear. You can visit the places mentioned below and still find the diagrams without the map all the same. You must then take these diagrams to a blacksmith to craft the swords and an armorer to craft the armor pieces, provided you also have the necessary materials.
You’ll need to get to the part of the main storyline where Geralt travels to Kaer Morhen. You’ll find the base version of the Wolf School gear in this region.
You need to be at level 14 to equip the base version of the Wolf School gear.
Wolven Armor Set
Once you make it to the Kaer Morhen region, head to the rundown tower south of the main Kaer Morhen castle.
You’ll find an elevated wooden platform here. Get on top of it by climbing the ladder. You’ll then find a chest next to a skeleton on the floor. Open the chest to find a note detailing how to open a portal that leads to a Witcher gear.
After obtaining the note, head back down and go to the entrance of the tower. Before crossing the entrance, look to your right to spot a broken section of the wall. Proceed through this broken section and make a right until you’re standing on a wooden platform. At the end of this path, you’ll find a Polished Crystal to your right.
Take the crystal and return to the tower. On the base level, you’ll find a deactivated portal next to the ladder. Interact with it to place the crystal on it. Once placed, use Aard on the portal to activate it.
This will summon a gateway in the air past the broken wall to the right of the portal. However, you can’t jump in the gateway just yet. Head to the right of the broken wall to find another portal, with a crystal already nestled upon it. Simply use Aard on this portal once more to stabilize the gateway.
Once done, jump into the gateway to get teleported to a cave. Head over to the mouth of the cave and you’ll be greeted by two wraiths. Defeat the monsters, then return to the mouth of the cave to find a skeleton on the ground. Loot the skeleton and you’ll find the diagrams for every piece of the Wolven armor set.
Wolven Steel Sword
The Wolven Steel Sword diagram is in the Bastion. This ruin is located west of Kaer Morhen.
You’ll face a horde of wraiths here as a part of a side quest. You’ll have to defeat these monsters first before you can acquire the diagram.
Once the monsters have been defeated, walk over to the northwestern corner of the Bastion grounds and you’ll find a skeleton surrounded by a pile of decrepit wood. Loot the skeleton to obtain the diagram for the Wolven Steel Sword.
Wolven Silver Sword
The diagram for the Wolven Silver Sword is in the Ruined Watchtower, located north of Kaer Morhen.
Once again, get ready to fight a group of wraiths in this area. After entering the Ruined Watchtower, approach the short staircase to the right and you’ll find a skeleton on the ground. Loot it to obtain the Wolven Silver Sword diagram.
How to Upgrade to Enhanced Wolven Gear
You can mark the location of the Enhanced Wolven gear diagrams through the Scavenger Hunt: Wolf School Gear parts 1 and 2. To begin these hunts, purchase the item called “Well-preserved notes by Hieronymus on the witcher Elgar” from Eibhear Hattori in Novigrad and the “Slightly torn notes by Hieronymus on the witcher Elgar” from the blacksmith in Lindenvale.
The chest piece, boots, and Silver Sword are in Velen while the trousers, gauntlets, and Steel Sword are in Kaer Morhen.
You’ll need to be at level 21 to equip the Enhanced Wolven gear set.
Enhanced Wolven Armor
The Enhanced Wolven Armor diagram is in a chest found underwater south of Fyke Isle in Velen.
There are Drowners lurking about these waters. You can kill these monsters while diving with a crossbow. Otherwise, you can ground on the small island nearby and fight the monsters on land.
You’ll find the chest underwater situated atop a pile of bricks. It’s located directly east of the small island in the area.
Enhanced Wolven Boots
This diagram is in the Grotto in Velen, located to the far east of Castle Village.
Once you enter the Grotto, take the path on the left, then immediately make a right once you get to the wide chamber. You’ll then find a chest behind stalagmites. Loot the chest to find the Enhanced Wolven Boots diagram.
Enhanced Wolven Silver Sword
The Enhanced Wolven Silver Sword diagram is in the cave you get to by entering the well in the garden of the Castle Village, the home of the Bloody Baron.
It’s in a chest in the northern corner of the cave.
Enhanced Wolven Trousers
You’ll find this diagram in a chest northeast of the Lakeside Hut in Kaer Morhen.
The chest is submerged in the water, but you don’t need to dive to get to and open it.
Enhanced Wolven Gauntlets
The Enhanced Wolven Gauntlets diagram is in a cave south of Kaer Morhen. This is the same cave you enter with Eskel during the Ugly Baby main quest, where you finish the fight with the Forktail.
The chest is in the main chamber of the cave.
Enhanced Wolven Steel Sword
The Enhanced Wolven Steel Sword is in the Ruined Watchtower in Kaer Morhen, the same place where you found the diagram of the base version of the Wolven Silver Sword.
From the signpost, head to the left of the entrance instead of passing through it. Look over to the slope on the right and make your way up it when the slope is climbable enough. Continue onward while facing the watchtower until you’re standing on a wooden scaffolding.
Continue towards the wooden platform that’s right on top of the entrance and you’ll find a chest. Open the chest to obtain the diagram.
How to Upgrade to Superior Wolven Gear
Start the Scavenger Hunt: Wolf School Gear Part 3 and 4 to mark the locations of the Superior Wolven Gear set diagrams on the map. To start these hunts, purchase the “Damp, moldy notes by Hieronymus on the witcher Elgar” from the armorer at Kaer Trolde in Skellige and the “Heavily faded notes by Hieronymus on the witcher Elgar” from the armorer at the Hierarch Square in Novigrad.
The chest piece, Silver Sword, and Steel Sword are in Skellige while the gauntlets, trousers, and boots are in Kaer Morhen.
You’ll have to be at level 29 to equip the Superior Wolven gear set.
Superior Wolven Armor
The diagram for the Superior Wolven Armor is in a fort that’s turned into a monster nest located southwest of Fyresdal in Skellige.
It’ll be difficult to avoid the harpies as you make it to the chest that contains the diagram so you’ll have to kill the monsters first.
Once the harpies have been killed, exit the fort and, while facing away from the entrance, make a left. Keep going forward while sticking close to the wall on the left. Once the wall is low enough for you to jump over it, do so to get on top of the walls.
From here, head left and keep moving forward until you spot a chest at the end of the path. Open the chest to find the diagram.
Superior Wolven Silver Sword
The Superior Wolven Silver Sword diagram is a burial mound located southeast of Arinbjorn. There are three burial mounds here. The diagram is in the westernmost mound.
Once inside, head to the northern corner of the mound and you’ll find a small chest behind a wooden tub. The diagram is inside this chest.
Superior Wolven Steel Sword
The diagram for the Superior Wolven Steel Sword is in a ruin southwest of Lofoten.
There’s an ice troll walking around in this area. You don’t need to defeat the ice troll if you’re not up for it. You can simply stealth around it.
Get to the northern section of the ruins and you’ll find a massive hole in the ground. Enter it and you’ll find a room that’s filled with toxic gas. You can dissipate the gas temporarily with Aard or Igni, but they’ll return just a few seconds after. The better bet is to drink a Golden Oriole potion to be immune from the gas.
Enter the room and immediately head left to find a chest. Open it and take the diagram.
Superior Wolven Gauntlets
You’ll find the Superior Wolven Gauntlets diagram in a cave southwest of the Iron Mine in Kaer Morhen.
You’ll have to fight an earth elemental once you get to the cave’s main chamber. After defeating the elemental, walk over to the altar before the tunnel to find a small chest. Open it to obtain the diagram.
Superior Wolven Trousers
The Superior Wolven Trousers diagram is in a cave north of the Bastion in Kaer Morhen.
Upon entering the cave, continue going deeper into it while battling nekker warriors and devourers along the way. You’ll eventually make it to a wide chamber that’s filled with devices and apparatus the Witchers made for the Trial of the Grasses.
The diagram is inside a chest that’s blocked behind stalagmites. You can clear these to get to the chest with Aard.
Superior Wolven Boots
This diagram is in a cave east of Kaer Morhen.
To get here, you’ll need to run alongside the mountains and will have to manually swim to get here since there are no boats nearby. Once you finally make it to the cave, enter it and get ready to face a couple of endrega warriors and endrega workers.
Make it to the main chamber of the cave and follow along the wall to the right. You’ll eventually find a chest behind stalagmites. Destroy them with Aard and open the chest to get the diagram.
How to Upgrade to Mastercrafted Wolven Gear
You can mark the locations of the Mastercrafted Wolven gear diagrams with the Scavenger Hunt: Wolf School Gear Parts 5 and 6. You can begin part 5 by purchasing the “Worn-out and faded notes by Hieronymus on the witcher Elgar” from Eibhear Hattori and the part 6 by purchasing the “Notes on parchment by Hieronymus on Elgar the witcher” from the armorer in Kaer Trolde.
For the Mastercrafted Wolven set, you’ll find the chest piece, Silver Sword, and Steel Sword in Velen. The gauntlets, trousers, and boots are in Skellige.
You’ll need to be at level 34 to equip the Mastercrafted Wolven set.
Mastercrafted Wolven Armor
You’ll find the diagram for the Mastercrafted Wolven Armor piece is in a ruin southeast of Byways in Velen.
There are wraiths in this area so be sure to watch out for them. Head to the western end of the ruins to find two empty fountains. The one on the north hides a chest that contains the diagram for this armor piece.
Mastercrafted Wolven Silver Sword
The Mastercrafted Wolven Silver Sword diagram in an area that’s guarded by fiend northeast of the Nilfgaardian Army Group Camp in Velen.
You’ll first need to defeat this fiend before you can access the location of the chest.
Once the monster has been dealt with, loot the skeleton that’s on the ground nearby to obtain a key. Use this key to open the gate ahead. You’ll find a chest past this gate. Open it to obtain the diagram.
Mastercrafted Wolven Steel Sword
The diagram for the Mastercrafted Wolven Steel Sword is in a sunken ship located southwest of Duen Hen in Velen.
Swim or ride a boat towards the area, then dive underwater. Drowners can spawn here. Kill them using your crossbow if they become too much of a nuisance.
Once you make it to the sunken ship, find an opening on the ship to get below deck. You’ll find a chest beneath the stairs. Open the chest to get the diagram.
Mastercrafted Wolven Gauntlets
Head to the abandoned ruins west of Fayrlund in Skellige.
If you haven’t finished the “Missing Son” Contract yet, there’ll be a fiend here waiting for you. You’ll first need to defeat this fiend before you can get the diagram.
Once defeated, head to the western end of the ruins and you’ll find the chest on top of a broken wall.
Mastercrafted Wolven Trousers
The Mastercrafted Wolven Trousers diagram is in the Old Watchtower in the Spikeroog region in Skellige.
There are a group of bandits here you’ll have to defeat first. Once the enemies have been dealt with, head over to the north of the tower to find an archway. Pass through it and make a right.
The wall to the right here becomes low enough for you to jump on it. Jump on the wall and head right until you find the chest that’s situated right over the archway. Open it to get the trousers diagram.
Mastercrafted Wolven Boots
Head to the Dorve Ruins in Undvik, Skellige.
Head to the southern end of Dorve Ruins until you spot a tall tower. There’s a chest leaning against the tower, right behind a short wall. Open it to get the diagram.
How to Upgrade to Grandmaster Wolven Gear
You can obtain the Grandmaster Wolven Gear during the Blood and Wine expansion DLC. You can start the Scavenger Hunt for this set by speaking with Lazare Lafargue, an armorer you’ll find in Beauclair. However, like the previous sets, this isn’t needed to find the chest.
The required level for the Grandmaster Wolven gear is level 40.
Grandmaster Wolven Gear Set
Every piece of the Grandmaster Wolven gear, from swords to armor pieces, is all located in Termes Palace Ruins.
Before reaching the entrance of the ruin, walk over to the corpse on the ground to the right of the entrance. Loot it to get a Purple Ruby.
Pass through the entrance and look to the right to find a small receptacle on the wall. Interact with it to place the Purple Ruby on it. This will dispel the purple barrier that’s blocking the path ahead. With that out of the way, head inside and be prepared to face a handful of barghests and wraiths.
Proceed to the path on the left and destroy the wall ahead using Aard. Keep following down this path and you’ll arrive at a cavern where you’ll also find giant centipedes. Defeat these enemies or run past them.
Climb up the ledges ahead until you’re facing another broken wall. Just like before, destroy this with Aard to pass through. Drop down and defeat the enemies here. Once defeated, head to the room to the east and you’ll find a skeleton on the ground that’s buried under a large boulder. Loot the corpse to obtain the diagrams for the Grandmaster Wolven Steel Sword, Grandmaster Wolven Silver Sword, and Grandmaster Wolven Gauntlets.
Return to the previous room, then head to the room to the west to find a satchel on the ground. Loot this to obtain the rest of the diagrams.
NG+ Wolven School Gear
You can head to New Game Plus after completing The Witcher 3’s main storyline. When you do, you can return to the locations of the diagrams listed above to find the NG+ versions of the Wolf School gear set diagrams. These “Legendary” versions of the Wolven Armor set has the same designs, but higher stats. You’ll also have re-craft these before you can equip them.
