How to Get Aerogel in Subnautica

To get Aerogel in Subnautica, you can simply turn to the handy Fabricator that’s in your lifepod. It’s one of the pre-built interior modules present in Lifepod 5 and the only one that remained useable after you crash-landed on the planet.

Now that you know where you can craft your own Aerogel, let’s talk about the materials needed to create one.

    Gel Sack

    Gel Sack from Subnautica.

The first ingredient you’ll need to create Aerogel in Subnautica is Gel Sack. You can find this material within deep caves, attached to walls. They can be easily spotted by the purple orbs on their circular body.

This material is very common, as long as you know where to actually look for them. These are the biomes that contain Gel Sacks:

    • Blood Kelp Zone
    • Bone Fields Caves
    • Deep Grand Reef
    • Deep Sparse Reef
    • Dunes
    • Grand Reef
    • Lost River
    • Bone Fields
    • Corridor
    • Ghost Canyon
    • Ghost Forest
    • Tree Cove
    • Mountains
    • Northwestern Mushroom Forest
    • Sea Treader’s Tunnel Caves

    Ruby

    Ruby from Subnautica.

Like the Gel Sack, it’s pretty easy to find Rubies as long as you know where to go. Once you head to these locations, look for white rocks that have four red spikes protruding out of them. You can usually find these Rubies near thermal vents.

Here are the locations you should head to for Rubies:

    • Blood Kelp Zone
    • Bone Fields Caves
    • Bulb Zone
    • Bulb Zone Caves
    • Crash Zone Mesas
    • Deep Sparse Reef
    • Dunes
    • Grand Reef
    • Grand Reef Caves
    • Inactive Lava Zone
    • Lost River
    • Bone Fields
    • Corridor
    • Ghost Canyon
    • Ghost Forest
    • Tree Cove
    • Junction
    • Mountains Corridor
    • Mountains Caves
    • Sea Treader’s Tunnel Caves
    • Underwater Islands Caves

Once you’ve obtained both of these materials, head to your Fabricator to craft an Aerogel.

Take note, though, you will only receive the blueprint for the Aerogel after you’ve picked up your first Gel Sack, so you might not be able to find the option to craft Aerogel the first time you open the Fabricator.
