How to Complete the Damaged Map Side Quest
First things first, before trying to complete this quest, you should speak to Popola first so you can gain access to the ferry. The ferry will allow you to fast travel to certain parts of the world. This will make traveling from one place to another much easier, and that’s something you’ll need to do constantly during this side quest.
With that out of the way, let’s get to the quest itself.
Finding the Map
As soon as you begin the quest, you’ll be tasked to find a treasure map. Head to the 2nd floor of the library for this. You can easily find what you’re looking for easily since it’ll be marked by an interact prompt.
Once you spot the interact prompt, go up to it to find the treasure map. Unfortunately, you’ll find that it’s damaged. Grimoire Weiss will then suggest a place you can go to have the map repaired.
Head to the Strange-thing store in Facade
Once you arrive at the Strange-thing store to have the map repaired, the shopkeeper will need you to pick up a few things for him as he lacks the required materials to do the job. If you’ve been exploring enough leading up to this side mission, there’s a good chance you have these items already. If you don’t, here are the items you’ll need and where to acquire them.
- 3 Eggplant – You can purchase this from the Grocer store in the village.
- 3 Goat Hide – Dropped by the goats on the Eastern Road.
- 3 Machine Oil – Dropped by the flying robots in Junk Heap.
Once you have all the required materials, return to the Strange-thing store to have the map repaired.
Return Back to the Blacksmith
Once the map is repaired, head back to the village and go to the blacksmith, only to find him missing. Instead, you’ll be speaking to the blacksmith’s wife this time. She’ll tell you to go find the treasure yourself. Unfortunately for you, you’re unable to decode what the treasure map is trying to inform. And with that, you’re off to…
Talk to Popola
You must now return to Popola so she can decode the treasure map for you. She’ll then deduce that the treasure map is actually a map of the Lost Shrine and that there’s an object of great significance there located in a hidden room that’s apparently devoid of sunlight.
With that information, travel to the Lost Shrine. The place the map talks about actually refers to a room on the second floor. This room is the one opposite to the path you’re supposed to take to head to the third floor. Enter the said room, keep pushing forward, and you’ll find what you’re looking for at the end of this area—a jade hair ornament.
Return to the Wife
Return the jade hair ornament you just acquired to the blacksmith’s wife. She’ll then ask you to sell this for something “shiny” so you can give that to the husband instead. At this point, you’re given the chance to either agree with the wife or just keep the jade hair ornament for yourself. Choose the option to sell the hair ornament.
Selling the Hair Ornament
The merchant you need to sell the hair ornament to is the Strange-things store shopkeeper. He’ll trade you a gold coin for it. Once that transaction is done, return to the wife and you’ll find that the blacksmith has returned. Give the Old Gold Coin to him and he’ll trade you another treasure map for it.
Finding the Treasure
Just like before, head back to Popola so she can decode the treasure map for you. You’ll learn that the treasure map points to a “place where the iron bridge starts.” This refers to the beginning of the bridge in the Northern Plains from the side of the Forest of Myth.
At the foot of the bridge along this area, you should find something glowing on the ground. Pick it up to acquire the Labyrinth’s Shout, a powerful spear, and your reward for finally completing this long-winding side quest. Congratulations!
