Will Research for Money is a side quest in Octopath Traveler 2 that’s given to you by the Octopus Researcher located in front of the Inn in Montwise, Crestlands. He’s interested in studying octopuffs, but needs money to fund his research.

Find the Octopus Enthusiast
The Octopus Researcher is desperate for an investor. Unfortunately, nobody residing in Montwise is interested. To find someone who may have a bit of coin to throw at this venture, you’ll need to travel to Canalbrine, Harborlands.
Enter the Pub and speak with the Octopus Enthusiast in the back-right corner of the bar, and then use a Path Action to recruit him.
Bring him back to Montwise and speak again with the Octopus Researcher. They’ll have a brief discussion and the Octopus Enthusiast will agree to fund the research.

You get a single reward for bringing the benefactor to the Octopus Researcher:
