Margit, the Fell Omen’s Attacks
This unusual boss will throw a few different types of attacks at you, sometimes in quick succession. Since they have a tail and can summon weapons, Margit is an unpredictable foe. Take a good look at each of his attacks to see where you’re safe from them. This, in turn, will allow you to find the best windows to launch your own attacks.
After you get Margit below 50% HP, they will enter phase 2. This is when they will begin using a large yellow hammer and a yellow sword in addition to their other attacks. These additional weapons will get summoned and unsummoned by the boss throughout the latter part of the battle.
Jump Attack (0:15)
Soon after you pass through the golden fog gate, Margit will run at you before jumping high into the air. They will try to strike you from above with their wooden staff. Just before Margit lands, roll away from their site of impact to avoid taking damage. Keep in mind that Margit can do this attack anytime throughout the fight. Though, the boss will mostly only use it if you’re slightly out of melee range, albeit uncommonly.
Since it will take the boss a few seconds to recover, you can use that time to get behind them and deliver a few attacks. However, Margit will soon jump back and reposition themself.
Yellow Throwing Knives (0:24)
If you are far away from Margit, the most common attack he will do is a ranged one. He’ll often throw yellow knives that he can summon that seem to be made of energy. The boss will throw 2 knives in quick succession, so be ready to dodge twice.
If you’re a spellcaster or use a ranged weapon, you’ll see this attack from Margit quite a bit. It’s thankfully pretty easy to dodge, and, after you evade it, you have a small window to attack.
Staff Sweep (0:32)
If you are in front of Margit, the Fell Omen, he will sometimes sweep his staff in a horizontal path. This wide attack can be hard to dodge or block if you are somewhat close to the boss.
However, you can actually jump over this attack! This is the best way to dodge it if you’re somewhat close to the boss. Though, if you’re far enough to roll away or roll behind Margit, you’re better off doing that. If you’re feeling risky, you can also avoid this attack by standing under Margit’s staff arm as he performs it (0:50). The boss is tall enough that his swing will go over your head if you’re right up against Margit’s front. There’s not much delay between this attack and the following ones that Margit will unleash. As such, it’s not recommended to attack Margit shortly before or after a staff sweep unless you’re under his arm.
Staff Slam (0:37)
Once in a while, Margit will hold his staff above his head with both hands. This is the boss charging up to slam the ground in front of them with their large wooden weapon. The charge-up time is about 2 seconds, which makes it a bit awkward to anticipate.
Though, this delay also gives you some time to get out of the danger zone. The best place to be when Margit uses this attack is behind them. Use the charge-up time to get behind the boss by rolling or sprinting. If you’re quick, you’ll have time to land a hit before the boss’ next attack.
Hammer Jump Attack (0:52)
Margit will jump into the air and try to slam you with their ethereal yellow hammer. Like with Margit’s other jump attack, it’s best to avoid this one by dodge-rolling at the moment before impact.
Though, the delay before the next attack is a short one. You may be able to land an attack before Margit repositions himself for another strike.
Staff and Hammer Combo (1:05)
Sometimes, Margit, the Fell Omen will perform a 3-attack combo that involves 2 staff sweeps followed by a vertical hammer strike. The third strike will have a delay of 2 seconds before impact.
Since Margit can turn and aim during each of these 3 attacks, it makes dodging them tricky. However, the safest place to be is behind Margit during this attack. Though, wait until they slam their hammer down before you risk attacking.
Tail Swipe (1:18)
Although getting behind Margit is a good idea for most of the fight, there are some risks that come along with this tactic. Mainly that the boss can attack you with their tail. This move won’t deal much damage, but it’s very quick and hard to see coming.
Thankfully, Margit, the Fell Omen does telegraph this attack. You can see them winding up with their tail prior to the swiping move. Afterward, Margit will usually jump away and reposition himself.
Staff and Sword Combo (1:20)
On occasion, Margit will summon a glowing yellow sword to use in a 3-hit attack with his staff. This combo will consist of a thrust with the sword before a horizontal slash and then will be followed by a thrust from the staff.
These 3 attacks will come at you swiftly, so you should focus on dodging each of them before thinking about counterattacking. After Margit does the thrust with his staff, he’ll need 2 seconds to recover. This would be a good window to attack if you’re within range.
How to Stagger Margit, the Fell Omen
When you drop Margit, the Fell Omen’s HP below 75%, they will get knocked down (0:40). This will allow you to get in front of Margit and use a light attack to perform a critical attack. This maneuver will take a decent chunk out of Margit’s HP bar and will knock them back. However, the foe will get back up shortly, so be ready.
Furthermore, when you drop the boss’ HP below 25%, they will get knocked down again (1:26). This will allow you to get another critical attack that will bring Margit, the Fell Omen close to defeat. Just a few more hits and victory will be yours! However, remember to be patient. Getting too greedy with attacks can lead to Margit landing a lucky blow on you. If you’re low on HP and such an attack kills you, it would feel all the worse when so close to victory.
Use a Distraction Against Margit, the Fell Omen
Summoning an Ash of War ally (0:12) of some sort can help take the pressure off of you. This is because, once in a while, Margit will focus on the ally you summoned instead of you. This isn’t something that you can do in all boss fights. Furthermore, nothing you can summon at this point will do much damage against a boss. As such, you’ll still need to take down Margit yourself, though, while the foe is distracted, you’ll have time to reposition, attack them, or heal. For these reasons, summoning an Ash of War ally can be a great way to get an advantage over Margit, the Fell Omen.
