Use The Spirit Calling Bell To Summon Spirits
You gather more and more spirit ashes to summon as you progress further along with this game. However, you won’t be able to summon any of them without the Spirit Calling Bell.
You acquire the Spirit Call Bell from an NPC named Renna. She’ll appear at the Church of Elleh after you acquire the ability to summon Torrent from Melina. She’ll also only appear here at night time. That said, rest at a Site of Grace and pass the time to night when you arrive here.
Renna will call out to you. Approach her and confirm that you do have the ability to summon the Spectral Steed. After this interaction, she’ll give you the Spirit Calling Bell, as well as the Lone Wolf Ashes.
If you somehow missed Renna by progressing further without meeting her at the Church of Elleh, you can also purchase the Spirit Calling Bell from the Twin Maiden Husks at the Roundtable Hold.
Spirit Calling Bell Usage
You don’t need to equip the Spirit Calling Bell to summon spirits. As long as it is in your inventory, you have the ability to summon any spirit. Equip your desired Spirit Ash instead. Once used, your player will automatically use the Spirit Calling Bell to summon your chosen spirit.
Summoning spirits in Elden Ring is tied to rebirth monuments. When there’s one around, the monument icon will appear on the left side of your screen. Only then will you be able to summon spirits.
Don’t worry, though. Rebirth monuments are present in almost every boss room and open-world encounters where you’ll need to face multiple enemies at once.
