Elden Ring: How to Beat the Royal Revenant

The Royal Revenant is one of the most recognizable enemies in Elden Ring, for all the right and wrong reasons. This enemy is ridiculously challenging and unpredictable. That doesn’t mean there aren’t ways to eliminate it easily, though.

The Effects of Healing on The Royal Revenant

The best way to defeat the Royal Revenant is to use a healing incantation while in close proximity to it. Incantations such as Heal and Great Heal will create a circle of light around the caster. When a Royal Revenant touches this, it deals massive damage on them and it staggers them as well. The Lord’s Heal and Erdtree Heal also have the same effect on Revenants.

Using Heal on the boss variation of the Royal Revenant is enough to put it down.

Faith builds will absolutely destroy Royal Revenants because of their weakness. Non-Faith builds, on the other hand, can take measures just to fight these things. The Heal incantation only requires 12 Faith. If you’re not using a Faith build, be sure to memorize this spell and equip a Sacred Seal when you know you’re going into an area that has a Royal Revenant.

Shields

If you’re not willing to raise your Faith stat and do the other requirements to perform a healing incantation, you can use shields instead. It’s not as effective as the previous strategy, but it can also work.

A lot of a Royal Revenant’s attacks are swift and unpredictable. It’s best to always bring your shield up while fighting these enemies. For more efficiency, imbue the Barricade Shield Ash of War on your shield and activate it.

The best time to use the Ash of War is when the Royal Revenant does its multiple-swipe attack. This is when it lunges towards you and attacks you continuously as it crawls forward.

Side Dodges, Except for One Attack

Be sure to always dodge to the side whenever dodging a Royal Revenant’s attacks. However, there is one exception to this.

Every once in a while, the Royal Revenant will spew poison at you. When this happens, dodge forward instead of sideways. The Royal Revenant can spew its poison wide enough that it can still hit you if you dodge sideways.

Prioritize Range

The best way to do this, of course, is to use a use ranged-build character. Sorcery and Faith builds in particular will make short work of a Royal Revenant enemy. Most of this enemy’s deadliest attacks are the ones it does at short range. Hitting it from afar will prove beneficial to you.

There are also ways to put distance between you and a Royal Revenant if you’re using a melee build. The best option is to use a Spirit Ash. Summon the Spirit Ash of your choice and have them distract the enemy. You can then make your attacks when its focus is away from you.

Royal Revenants can appear as dungeon bosses or as regular field enemies. These enemies are found in the following areas:

• Lunar Estate Ruins
• The Shaded Castle

• Subterranean Shunning-Grounds
