Key Takeaway
You can catch Albacore at the Ocean during the fall or winter in any weather between 6 a.m. and 11 a.m., and between 6 p.m. and 2 a.m.
The Albacore is an uncommon Fish that is moderately difficult to catch in Stardew Valley. Albacores are used in a variety of quests, so you’ll want to have plenty in stock. Just wear warm clothes when fishing for them.

Albacore Basics
Albacores aren’t the most difficult fish to catch, but they aren’t easy, either. That said, you may want to fish a bit before you try your luck so that you have plenty of Fishing XP, making the fight fairer. Albacore sells for a decent price, but you won’t want to rely on Albacore to get rich.
Grade | Base Price | Fisher (+25%) | Angler (+50%) |
---|---|---|---|
Normal | 75g | 93g | 112g |
Silver | 93g | 116g | 139g |
Gold | 112g | 140g | 168g |
Iridium | 150g | 187g | 225g |
Albacores are also a decent source of Energy and Health, though you’re better off bringing other snacks with you if you plan to venture into the Mines or other dangerous areas.

When, Where, and How to Catch Albacore
Albacore aren’t too difficult to catch. You can find Albacore at the Ocean during the fall or winter between 6 a.m. and 11 a.m., and between 6 p.m. and 2 a.m. during any weather. You can also catch Albacore any time, any day if you’re using Magic Bait.
You don’t need a lot of experience to reel in an Albacore, but you don’t want to go in with no experience at all, either. Add some bait on your fishing rod (if you have the Fiberglass rod or better) to increase the frequency of a bite.
If you’re not interested in fishing, you can randomly find Albacore for sale at the Traveling Cart for 225-1000g, or at Korbs’ shop on Wednesdays for 200g. You can occasionally find an Albacore in a Garbage Can during the fall and winter around town, too.
Recipes That Require Albacore
There aren’t any recipes that strictly require Albacore. However, there are three recipes that accept any Fish as an ingredient, so you can use Albacore for those recipes.
Recipe | Ingredients | Description |
---|---|---|
Maki Roll |
| Fish and rice wrapped in seaweed. |
Quality Fertilizer |
| Improves soil quality, increasing your chance to grow quality crops. Mix into tilled soil. |
Sashimi |

Gifting Albacore
Albacore doesn’t make a good gift in Stardew Valley. Everyone in the valley either feels neutral, dislikes, or hates Albacore.
Albacore in Fish Ponds
You can place Albacore in a Fish Pond. The initial capacity is 3 Albacore, though this can be increased to 10 by completing quests. You’ll earn 30 Fishing XP for each quest you complete.

Other Uses of Albacore
Albacores have several other uses in Stardew Valley. Albacore isn’t required for any bundles in the Community Center, but is required in three separate quests.
- Willy may randomly request 1 to 4 Albacore. This quest may appear on the Help Wanted board during fall or winter. You’ll get 75g for completing this quest.
- Demetrius may request you to catch 10 Albacore during the fall. This quest may appear on the Special Orders board. The reward for completing this quest is the Farm Computer recipe and the amount of gold equal to what the fish would sell for.
- Gus will request an Albacore on the 26th of winter. This is the Fish Stew quest, and you’ll receive it by mail. The reward for completing this quest is 400g and 1 Friendship heart.
Albacore can also be used in the Sewing Machine to tailor the Sailor Shirt.
