As you explore the world of God of War Ragnarök, you’ll come across multiple gold cracks and wind spouts. The thing you’ll need to make use of these is considered a massive spoiler. Read at your own risk.
Forging Destiny
If you’re still a few hours into the game, the best thing for you to do is to keep on playing. The “thing” you’ll need for the gold cracks and wind spouts is acquired in a main quest. There’s no way for you to miss it.
If you’re still curious despite that warning, then feel free to read on.
The gold cracks and wind spouts scattered throughout the nine realms are for the third weapon Kratos acquires in the game. You’ll acquire this weapon during the “Forging Destiny” main quest.
The weapon is a spear called Draupnir. Rather, the weapon itself is a magical ring called Draupnir, which then forms Draupnir Spears at will. Aside from being an effective melee weapon, you can throw the spear at enemies or environmental obstacles, similar to the Leviathan Axe. Unlike the Leviathan Axe, however, the Draupnir will not return to your hand. Instead, the magical ring will form another spear on your hand. Thrown spears can explode by pressing the Triangle button, which causes stun and damage.
You can throw a Draupnir Spear at gold cracks and wind spouts. Throwing them at gold cracks and making them explode will shatter the cracked object. Sometimes, you’ll see three gold cracks on one environmental obstacle. You’ll need to throw a spear at each of these and explode them all at once to shatter the object.
Throwing a spear at a wind spout will have that spear stick to that surface, giving you a ledge to climb or latch on to.
