About Vocations in Dragon’s Dogma 2
As the Arisen, you can choose from a variety of Vocations when you begin Dragon’s Dogma 2. The Vocation you choose dictates what Weapons and Skills you can use. There are four starting Vocations immediately available at the start of the game—these are also open to your Pawn.
- Fighter – A melee class that uses swords and shields.
- Archer – A ranged class wielding a bow and arrows.
- Thief – A melee class that wields twin daggers and keeps to the shadows.
- Mage – A ranged caster specializing in both offensive and curative spells.
In addition to the base-level Vocations, there are six Advanced Vocations. These must be unlocked throughout the game by completing quests or interacting with NPCS. Here are all the Advanced Vocations in Dragon’s Dogma 2:
- Sorcerer – An offensive spellcaster skilled in powerful destructive spells.
- Warrior – A tank class wielding a greatsword.
- Mystic Spearhand – Armed with magic and a double-sided spear, this class can fight at any range.
- Magick Archer – Wielding magic arrows, Magick Archers can slaughter enemies from afar and heal party members.
- Trickster – A stealth class that can taunt and deceive enemies while buffing allies.
- Wayfarer – A low-stat class that lets players mix and match weapons from any other Vocations.
How to Unlock the Sorcerer and Warrior Vocations
Both the Sorcerer and Warrior Vocations can be unlocked as soon as you reach the capital city of Vernworth.
Speak to the Vocation Guild NPC who will ask you to find weapons for the Warrior and Sorcerer Vocations. These weapons can both be found in Trevo Mine, which is located to the northwest of Vernworth.
Starting at the South entrance of the mine, follow the path until you reach a large open chamber. Here, you’ll find a chest containing a Warrior’s Greatsword, the Two-Hander.
From here, walk North until you reach another large room—this one has bridges. Drop down to the lowest level and pass through a small alcove to the East. You’ll find a chest holding the Sorcerer’s weapon, an archistaff called Grevious Horns.
Take these weapons back to the Vocation Guild in Vernworth and speak to the NPC again to unlock both classes.
How to Unlock the Mystic Spearhand Vocation
To unlock the Mystic Spearhand Vocation, you simply need to talk to an NPC named Sigurd. As you make your way through Dragon’s Dogma 2, you’ll have three opportunities to seek him out.
The earliest chance you’ll have to find Sigurd is when you’re in Vernworth. After Captain Brant tells you to return to Melve, a dragon attacks and Sigurd comes to your aid during the fight. Once the battle ends, speak to him and ask him about his fighting style to unlock the Mystic Spearhand Vocation.
If you missed him, your second chance comes in the village of Harve south of Trevo Mine. Find Sigurd in a small hut to the east.
Your third and final opportunity to speak to Sigurd comes later in the campaign. Once you’re able to travel to Battahl, travel to Dragonsbreath Tower to the southwest to find him.
How to Unlock the Magick Archer Vocation
Later in the game, you’ll gain access to the Beastren Kingdom of Battahl. To the south, you’ll find a Volcanic Island. This is where you can unlock the Magick Archer Vocation.
Travel to Drabnir’s Grotto by following the road south from Bakbattahl to begin unlocking the Magick Archer Vocation. This cave links the mainland with the island. After passing through, you’ll find a dwarf named Gautstafr who will ask you to help him pick some wildflowers.
After helping out, Gautstafr will invite you back to his house and ask you to keep him company on his way to the local healing hot springs. When you arrive at the scenic spot, his wife will appear and teaches you the Magick Archer Vocation.
How to Unlock the Trickster Vocation
In Battahl, visit the Reverant Shrine to the east of Enoa’Battahl Forest.
Here, speak to the oracle Luz to unlock the Trickster Vocation.
How to Unlock the Wayfarer Vocation
Conveniently, the Wayfarer Vocation can also be unlocked on the Volcanic Island. Visit the Geyser Hamlet and speak to a drunk man named Lamond. Unsurprisingly given his demeanor, he’ll ask you to get him some Newt Liquor—and not just one bottle, but three.
Newt Liquor can be crafted by combining fruit wine and a Saurian tail. Fruit wine is quite hard to find, but the easiest way to add some to your inventory is by completing the Welcome to Battahl side quest and completing all of Captain Brant’s quests.
Return to Lamond and hand over three Newt Liquors to unlock the Wayfarer Vocation.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 is one of the most immersive open-world titles of the last decade, and unlocking all six advanced Vocations reveals plenty of new and engaging ways to take down your enemies.
