Elden Ring is an immense success, but developer FromSoftware isn’t taking a break. In a new interview with 4Gamer.net, Dark Souls and Elden Ring director Hidetaka Miyazaki stated that the company’s next game is in the “final stages” of development.

In a translation provided by Gematsu, 4Gamer brought up a statement Miyazaki gave a few years ago when promoting the then-upcoming Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. At the time, Miyazaki said that FromSoftware was underway on 3.5 different titles and two of them were currently unannounced. One of those games was Elden Ring and we still don’t know about the other. When asked if that other title was still in development, Miyazaki responded, “Yes, development is currently in the final stages.”
The only hint we have as to what this game might be comes from the next question. When pressed about what Miyazaki would like to do as a director in the future, he responded, “In the mid-to-long term, I would like to work on a more abstract fantasy than anything we’ve done in the past.” Miyazaki also states that he is currently working on his next title as director, so we may be in store for another Souls-like in the not-to-distant future.
What Comes Next?
If this interview makes you think that FromSoftware is turning away from Elden Ring, you can rest easy: the company is dedicated to continually updating the game in the present. “First off, we’re going to continue releasing updates for Elden Ring,” Miyazaki said when asked about the future of the company. While that doesn’t necessarily mean DLC is coming, it does point to an eventual expansion being released. As for anything else, Miyazaki reiterates that the company has multiple titles in development with directors other than himself. It’s still too early to reveal what those games are, but Miyazaki promises that we’ll learn in due time.
This all follows with some recent job listings that FromSoftware has posted. Earlier this morning on the official FromSoftware Twitter account, the company put out a recruitment ad teasing “a wide range of occupations for multiple new projects.” That definitely lines up with everything Miyazaki has stated.
