Key Takeaway

You need to increase your Friendship with Togepi to the second-highest stage (or greater) to evolve them into Togetic. When checking your Friendship level by talking with Belamy in Jubilife Village, the second-highest stage will cause him to say that you and Togepi are “fast friends” and that “you must be quite good companions!”

Much like in previous main-series Pokémon games, you’ll need to evolve Togepi by increasing your Friendship with them. However, there are no Friendship-boosting items or other shortcuts. You’ll just have to spend a lot of time with your Togepi.

How to Raise Your Friendship Level Quickly

Here are the 4 best ways to increase your Friendship level with a Pokémon:

    • Use them in battle
    • Have them gather resources
    • Keep them in your party
    • Keep their HP full

Keeping your Togepi in your party and at full HP will allow you to gradually increase your Friendship level. However, battling with Togepi and getting them to gather resources can speed up the process significantly.

    Battle Low-Level Pokémon

The more you battle with Togepi, the quicker your Friendship level with them will increase. As such, the more battles you pack into a short amount of time, the better. For this reason, it is most efficient to face off against low-level Pokémon.

The quicker you get through each battle, the sooner you’ll be able to start another. As such, targeting Pokémon in the early areas of the game who are level 5 and below will be the fastest method of getting through many battles.

Therefore, it’s recommended to run around the Obsidian Fieldlands in order to find tons of low-level Pokémon. Furthermore, the best targets are Shinx and Buizel, as they do not run away during combat.

    Gather Every Resource in Sight

While you’re racing around and taking down low-level Pokémon, be sure to have Togepi grab every resource you see! Gathering resources doesn’t raise Friendship as much as battling, however, it’s much quicker.

With this in mind, you should use Topegi to harvest any and all goods you spot in between battling low-level Pokémon. Ore clusters, berry trees, and anything else that can be broken by a Pokémon will increase Friendship by the same amount.

If you use the above-mentioned methods, it shouldn’t take you more than an hour or so to reach the Friendship level required to evolve Togepi. If you’re wondering where your Friendship level with Togepi is, you can check it by speaking with Belamy in Jubilife Village. Belamy is found just south of where Marie is located (in front of the Pokémon Pastures sign).

There are 5 different stages of Friendship in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Here’s what Belamy will say for each stage:

    • Lowest Stage – “Togepi seems leery of you yet. New to the team, perhaps?”
    • Second-Lowest Stage – “I suppose Togepi has become a bit friendly toward you, but you’ve a ways to go…”
    • Middle Stage – “Togepi seems to get on well with you. But I’m sure it could get on better!”
    • Second-Highest Stage (when any Friendship-evolving Pokémon can evolve) – “You and Togepi seem to be fast friends. You must be quite good companions!”
    • Highest Stage – “What an excellent pair of friends you and Togepi make. You must mean a lot to each other!”

How to Tell When Your Togepi Can Evolve

Conveniently, whenever a Pokémon in your party is ready to evolve, you will get a pop-up with yellow text on the left of your screen saying so. When you head into your party menu, you’ll see that the Pokémon that is ready to evolve will have a glowing yellow Poké Ball beside them.

Furthermore, there will be an “Evolve” prompt at the top of the screen when you hover over this Pokémon. Interestingly, you don’t need to increase Togepi’s level after reaching the Friendship level required to evolve them. This is true for all Pokémon that evolve based on their Friendship level in Pokémon Legends: Arceus.

    The Reason to Evolve Togepi

Dust clouds and yellow energy swirling around Togepi as they evolve.

Evolving your Togepi into Togetic is the first step to getting a Togekiss. The reason you’d want a Togekiss is because of its great special stats. Togekiss’ Special Attack and Special Defense are pretty high, making this Pokémon both a strong offensive force and a potential special wall.

On top of that, Togekiss has an excellent move pool in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. In addition to being able to learn powerful Fairy-type moves, they can also pick up many suitable coverage moves from the move tutor. For example, Togekiss has access to strong special attacks like Shadow Ball, Flamethrower, and Psychic.

Also, if you need even more diverse coverage, Togekiss can potentially learn Magical Leaf and Water Pulse as well. Togekiss has access to a fair amount of physical damage-dealing moves, however, you should ignore these, as Togekiss’ Attack stat is by far their weakest trait.

How to Evolve Togetic Into Togekiss

In order to evolve Togetic, you’ll need to use a Shiny Stone on them. Thankfully, this can be done at any level and at any Friendship level. All you need to do is have the Togetic that you want to evolve in your party before using the Shiny Stone on them.

You can buy Shiny Stones from Simona in Jubilife Village for 1,200 Merit Points each. Additionally, you’ll get a Shiny Stone as a reward for completing Request #74: “A Bit of Help from Blissey”.

To get Merit Points, you’ll have to collect lost satchels from any area in the game. You’ll find lost satchels marked with white icons on the map as you explore different areas. Lost satchels respawn infinitely—albeit in different places each time. As such, you’ll be able to hunt them down for as many Merit Points as you’ll need.

Each lost satchel will give you somewhere between 50 to 100 Merit Points when you send them back to their owners through the Lost & Found menu. This menu can be found by pressing up on the directional pad and navigating to the second tab from the right. This tab will be marked with a wifi symbol.
