The new evolution of Scyther, Kleavor, is a bit tricky to obtain. This makes getting a shiny version of it even more challenging. However, there are ways of increasing your chances of finding shinies in Pokémon Legends: Arceus.

How to Increase Your Chances of Finding Shiny Pokémon

A player in red clothes battling a shiny Drifloon that is yellow in color instead of purple.

Initially, your chance of stumbling across a shiny Pokémon in Pokémon Legends: Arceus is 1 in 4,096. While these odds aren’t great, they’re twice as good as in Pokémon games prior to Generation VI. In all main series Pokémon games from Generation I to Generation V, the base shiny encounter chance was 1 in 8,192.

However, in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, increasing your research level of a specific species will significantly increase your odds of encountering shiny pocket monsters. To begin, increasing your research level to 10 for a species will make the odds of finding a shiny of that species 1 in 2,048.25. This is about twice as often!

But the tricks for shiny hunting don’t stop there. After you’ve fully researched a species (check off all the criteria on their Pokédex page), the chances of finding a shiny of that species will become 1 in 1,024.38. Once more, this basically doubles your odds, which is immensely helpful.

Use the Shiny Charm for Even Better Shiny Encounter Chances

To get the Shiny Charm, you’ll need to reach research level 10 for every Pokémon species in the game (excluding all legendary Pokémon with the exception of Arceus).

Once you’ve done that, head into Galaxy Hall and speak to Cyllene. She’ll bestow the mighty Shiny Charm onto you, which will let you become the best shiny hunter possible.

Thankfully, the Shiny Charm’s effects stack with the effects of your research levels. As such, at research level 10 and with the Shiny Charm, your odds of finding a shiny Pokémon will be 1 in 819.6. Furthermore, when you’ve fully researched a Pokémon species and have the Shiny Charm, your chances of encountering a shiny of that species jump up to 1 in 585.57.

Therefore, your best (controllable) way to find a shiny Scyther is to fully research it and obtain the Shiny Charm before going shiny hunting.

    Taking Advantage of Mass Outbreaks

Mass Outbreaks give you the best odds of finding a shiny Pokémon. However, they are random, which means you shouldn’t wait around for one. Although, if one does occur for Scyther, be sure to head to the region where it’s occurring!

Mass Outbreaks featuring Scyther will most likely happen in the Obsidian Fieldlands, though they can also take place in the Coronet Highlands.

Anytime you return to Jubilife Village, there is a 20% chance that a Mass Outbreak will occur. The area a Mass Outbreak will occur is random, as is the species involved in the Outbreak.

When you leave Jubilife Village, you’ll be able to see Mass Outbreaks on the map. The species that are involved in the Outbreak will appear in a circular image above the area where the Outbreak is occurring.

Here’s a breakdown of your shiny encounter chances during a Mass Outbreak:

    • At the base shiny rate, your odds of encountering a shiny Pokémon are 1 in 158.02
    • When you’ve reached research level 10 with a species, your odds of encountering a shiny Pokémon of that species are 1 in 152.19
    • After you’ve fully researched a species, your odds of encountering a shiny Pokémon of that species are 1 in 141.72
    • When you’ve reached research level 10 with a species, and you have the Shiny Charm, your odds of encountering a shiny Pokémon of that species are 1 in 137.02
    • After you’ve fully researched a species, and you have the Shiny Charm, your odds of encountering a shiny Pokémon of that species are 1 in 128.49

Taking Advantage of Massive Mass Outbreaks

Massive Mass Outbreaks are like Mass Outbreaks, except that they occur in waves. You can also think of Massive Mass Outbreaks as multiple Mass Outbreaks that happen simultaneously.

When leaving Jubilife Village, on the map, you’ll see a question mark over the area where a Massive Mass Outbreak is occurring. The chance of a Massive Mass Outbreak starting whenever you return to Jubilife Village is 25%.

During a Massive Mass Outbreak, if you defeat and catch all the Pokémon in the first wave, another wave will spawn with higher odds of possessing evolved and alpha Pokémon from that evolutionary line (in most cases).

The shiny encounter odds in a Massive Mass Outbreak are lower than in Mass Outbreaks. However, due to many more Pokémon spawning, there will be more opportunities for shinies to spawn.

Here’s a breakdown of your shiny encounter chances during a Massive Mass Outbreak:

    • At the base shiny rate, your odds of encountering a shiny Pokémon are 1 in 315.54
    • When you’ve reached research level 10 with a species, your odds of encountering a shiny Pokémon of that species are 1 in 293.04
    • After you’ve fully researched a species, your odds of encountering a shiny Pokémon of that species are 1 in 256.47
    • When you’ve reached research level 10 with a species, and you have the Shiny Charm, your odds of encountering a shiny Pokémon of that species are 1 in 241.41
    • After you’ve fully researched a species, and you have the Shiny Charm, your odds of encountering a shiny Pokémon of that species are 1 in 216.05

The only place where a Massive Mass Outbreak involving Scyther can occur is in the Obsidian Fieldlands. To increase the chances of Scyther Mass Outbreaks and Massive Mass Outbreaks starting, you can repeatedly leave and return to Jubilife Village.

How to Evolve Scyther Into Kleavor

A shiny Kleavor with green skin instead of brownish yellow.

Once you’ve obtained a shiny Scyther, the next step is to evolve them. To do so, you’ll need a rare item called a Black Augurite. While there are a few ways (5) to get this evolutionary item, the easiest method is as a request reward.

After getting a Black Augurite, you just need to use it on your shiny Scyther—which needs to be in your party. Afterward, you’ll finally have a shiny Kleavor! Rejoice by using them in battle a lot, as Kleavor is a pretty solid offensive force.

Every Way to Get Black Augurite

Firstly, you’ll want to complete Request #68: A Nosepass to Guide the Way. To find this request, you must first encounter a Nosepass. This can be done fairly easily while exploring the Coronet Highlands. Afterward, the request will appear on the job board in Galaxy Hall. Start it and then catch a Nosepass to give to Gully, who will also be in the Coronet Highlands. The reward for this request will be one Black Augurite.

Alternatively, you can possibly buy a Black Augurite from Ginter in Jubilife Village. While his inventory will be random, he will sometimes have a “Jet-Black Rock” for sale—which is a Black Augurite. This item will cost $8,000. You can restock Ginter’s inventory by catching any 20 Pokémon and then returning to him.

Another way to get Black Augurite is as a drop from Graveler. Each Graveler has a 5% chance of dropping one Black Augurite when defeated or caught. You can find a ton of Graveler to farm in the Coronet Highlands in a western area known as Bolderoll Ravine.

Space-time distortions are also a possible way to get Black Augurite. The odds will be lower than the above methods, however, Black Augurite (and other rare items) can spawn within these rifts in reality.

Lastly, you can potentially dig up a Black Augurite when riding Ursaluna. However, the chances of finding rare items this way are way lower than the previous methods. On top of that, this is arguably the most time-consuming method.
