Key Takeaway
Northeast of Gutanbac Shrine, inside of a tunnel leading through a giant tree stump, there’s a chest that contains the Archaic Warm Greaves. This leg armor will give you enough cold resistance when worn to prevent cold temperatures on the Great Sky Island from hurting you.
The moment you encounter the freezing areas of the Great Sky Island, it becomes time to find cold resistance armor. Thankfully, the tutorial area of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has at least one piece of such equipment.

Starting from Gutanbac Shrine—the closest fast travel point—head northeast. Nearby, you’ll see a ledge that you can use Ascension to reach.
Once you ascend through this ledge, head north into the tunnel inside of a giant tree stump. On the east side of this short tunnel is a chest. Within this chest are the Archaic Warm Greaves.
We recommend putting the Archaic Warm Greaves on immediately. With them equipped, you don’t need to worry about losing health in the Great Sky Island’s coldest areas.
What the Archaic Warm Greaves Actually Do
Specifically, the Archaic Warm Greaves grant tier-one cold resistance when worn. However, they also provide more armor than the leg armor (if it can be called that) that you start the game wearing. As such, they’re arguably the best leg armor you can find on the Great Sky Island.
With that said, they’ll quickly become outclassed in terms of armor value as you explore beyond the tutorial area. Although any armor that grants resistance to terrain effects is always useful to have in your inventory, so don’t ever throw them away!
If you’re having a hard time getting to the Archaic Warm Greaves chest, we recommend cooking some food that gives you cold resistance before you head into any frigid areas. Not only does that prevent you from taking damage, but it also lets you experiment with different effects—which definitely become useful later on. Stay warm, adventurers!
