Appropriately, yet annoyingly, these are all the places where Cherrim can also pop out of shaking berry trees. While logical, in terms of gameplay, this will mean Cherubi and Cherrim will basically compete for spawns. What’s more, Cherrim, for some reason, is more common than its unevolved form.
And that’s not even mentioning the wealth of Burmy, Wormadam, and Heracross you’ll have to wade through to find a Cherubi, as all of those Pokémon can also spawn from shaking berry trees.
How to Catch Cherubi
Depending on where and when you encounter Cherubi in your playthrough, you’ll need to use different battle tactics. You’ll always need to battle Cherubi to capture it, as Pokémon that spawn when you hit a shaking berry tree will always immediately initiate combat with you.
Tips for Low-Level Teams
If your party Pokémon are lower in level than the Cherubi, it’s recommended to battle them with a pocket monster that is resistant to Grass-type damage-dealing moves and does not take super effective damage from Fairy-type damage-dealing moves. Most of Cherubi’s moves are Grass-type, however, if they are above level 15, they’ll likely know the Fairy-type move Draining Kiss as well.
With that said, Cherubi’s most bothersome tactic is to use Stun Spore on your active Pokémon to paralyze them. If you don’t want to deal with such strategies, you can use a Grass-type of your own against Cherubi. Status inflicting Grass-type moves such as Stun Spore and Sleep Powder do not affect opposing Grass-type Pokémon.
Like with catching other Pokémon, your best bet for snagging a Cherubi is to weaken them until their HP is in the yellow or red zone and to inflict a status condition on them.
Tips for High-Level Teams
With high-level Pokémon on your side, you don’t want to risk knocking out a Cherubi, as finding another one can be tedious. As such, you’ll want to use more gentle tactics.
Cherubi’s catch rate isn’t very high. Therefore, you can get away with just inflicting them with a status condition before lobbing a Poké Ball of some sort. Ultra Balls would be the best since you’ll have to catch Cherubi during a battle. Although Great Balls and regular Poké Balls can still do the job.
Unlike in previous Pokémon games, all status conditions are equally effective at increasing your chances of catching Pokémon in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. As such, you can use whichever one you want.
Though, it would be the most efficient and convenient to use a move with high accuracy, like Thunder Wave. Also, keep in mind that Cherubi, as a Grass-type, is immune to Grass-type status moves like Stun Spore and Sleep Powder.
