Key Takeaway
To get a Slowking, you need to trade a Slowpoke that is holding a King’s Rock. However, since this is a trade evolution, you will technically be getting someone else a Slowking. Make sure you create some sort of trade-back deal if you want that Slowking!
To get Slowking in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, you need to evolve a Slowpoke. That’s right, Slowking evolves from Slowpoke—not Slowbro. This is a species with branching evolutions; not a linear evolutionary line. Fictional biology can be complicated.

How to Evolve Slowpoke Into Slowking
Firstly, you need to make a Slowpoke hold a King’s Rock. Then, you must trade that Slowpoke with someone. This will cause the Slowpoke to evolve into a Slowking.
However, this leaves you in the awkward position of still not having a Slowking, as you just gave it to another trainer. If you’re after a Slowking, make sure to have some sort of trade-back agreement with your trading partner.
Alternatively, you can both trade each other Slowpokes that are each holding King’s Rocks. As a result, both you and your ally will get Slowkings out of this trade.
How to Get a King’s Rock
There are three ways of getting a King’s Rock. The first is a one-time-only occurrence, and it happens after you complete the Gym Leader rematches. When you do, Geeta will give you a King’s Rock.
The other two methods are repeatable. The second option (and the best) is to buy a King’s Rock from one of the Delibird Presents stores in Mesagoza. This shop will be selling King’s Rocks for $10,000 each.
The last option for obtaining a King’s Rock is to win one from an Auction at Port Marinada. Unfortunately, there are only three to four auctions going at any given time, and what items they have available are randomized. As such, you need to check back every day to find a King’s Rock that is up for auction—which isn’t ideal.
The Best Slowking Build for Tera Raid Battles
Slowking can be a great choice for tackling Tera Raid Battles—particularly against Raid Bosses that were originally Fire-type, such as Cinderace and Charizard. This is due to Slowking having reliable bulk, useful typing, and a great movepool.
Stored Power Savior Moves and Battle Traits
- Stored Power
- Nasty Plot
- Slack Off
- Amnesia/Iron Defense
- Item – Life Orb
- Ability – Own Tempo
- Nature – Modest (+Special Attack, -Attack)
- EVs – 252 HP, 252 Special Attack, and 4 Special Defense
- Tera Type – Psychic
How to Use This Build
The goal is to boost Slowking’s stats while also powering up Stored Power. Initially, this move only has a base power of 20. However, for every increased stat stage, its base power goes up by 20. As such, if you use Nasty Plot once (+2 stat stages), Stored Power’s base power becomes 60.
To use this build in an ideal manner, you should first use Nasty Plot three times. This increases your stat stages to +6. In turn, this multiplies Slowking’s Special Attack by four and increases Stored Power’s base power to 140.
If you need even more power, use Amnesia or Iron Defense three times after using Nasty Plot thrice. This results in 12 total stat stage increases. At this point, Stored Power’s base power becomes 260.
You should have Slack Off to heal in between boosting and attacking. You don’t want to get knocked out, as this will reset your boosts.
Being able to heal with Slack Off means that you can make use of Life Orb without any major downsides. As for Natures, you want to be Modest for higher Special Attack. Invest in HP and Special Attack EVs as much as you can, as HP is the most useful for staying alive and Special Attack lets you hit harder.
Slowking doesn’t have the best ability options, but Own Tempo is the best for Tera Raid Battles. Lastly, you want Slowking’s Tera Type to be Psychic, as Stored Power is the only damage-dealing move on this build.
