Key Takeaway
A Halloween-staple, Pumpkins will only sprout organically during October. The only other way of obtaining them is by buying Pumpkin Seeds from the Dryad and growing them from scratch.
In Terraria, the world is truly your oyster in this sandbox dream come true. With tons of different activities, from mining to fishing, players can even dapple in the arts of farming! One of the crops you can grow and harvest is Pumpkins. Only naturally growing one month a year, Pumpkins can be a tricky resource to get your hands on. Luckily there is another way of obtaining them!

How To Get Pumpkins
Pumpkins are the universal symbol of Halloween. It should come as no surprise Pumpkins will be sprouting on Surface-level grass during the Halloween seasonal events. If players don’t fancy waiting for Pumpkins to naturally grow in their world, there’s luckily another easy way to get them.
Growing Pumpkins
Pumpkin Seeds are available for purchase from the Dryad NPC, for 2 silver and 50 bronze and can be planted on either green grass or Hallowed grass.
Pumpkins take several in-game hours to grow but they can be harvested at any stage while orange. A fully-grown crop will yield around 7-8 Pumpkins on average. If players wait until Halloween to harvest their Pumpkin crops, there’s a slight drop chance for a Magical Pumpkin Seed, which summons the Squashling pet.
Pumpkin Armor
Once you have harvested your Pumpkins, you can begin crafting with them! Surprisingly, Pumpkins can be made into armor at any Work Bench with 75 Pumpkins required to make the full set. Pumpkin armor has 10% increased damage for the set bonus and 7 Defense stat.
- Pumpkin Helmet (2 Defense)
- Pumpkin Breastplate (3 Defense)
- Pumpkin Leggings (2 Defense)
Crafting with Pumpkins
Halloween fans are in for a treat, as there are dozens of Pumpkin-themed furniture items to make full use of your Pumpkin crop harvest! You can even use 10 Pumpkins near a Furnace to bake a delicious Pumpkin Pie, which provides the Plenty Satisfied Buff, boosting life regeneration and improving all stats.

Pumpkin Moon Medallion
The main use for Pumpkins in Terraria is to make the Pumpkin Moon Medallion, which triggers the Hardmode Pumpkin Moon event. Crafting the Pumpkin Moon Medallion requires 5 Ectoplasm, 10 Hallowed Bars, 30 Pumpkins and a Mythril/Orichalum Anvil.
This spooky Hardmode event is not for the faint of heart! Players must gear up ready to fight some of the toughest bosses in Terraria, including the Mourning Wood and Pumpking himself! The Pumpkin Moon yields some of the best items in the game, including the Horseman’s Blade, which is an ingredient for the legendary Zenith sword. Keep in mind that the Pumpkin Moon Medallion can only be used at night, and the event will end at dawn.
