Tree Stumps in Disney Dreamlight Valley
Tree stumps are one of many kinds of challenging obstacles that can hinder your progress in Disney Dreamlight Valley. You’ll see them most frequently in the Forest of Valor biome, where they block off access to the northern parts of the forest. To remove them, you’ll need to carry out a few steps that will help to upgrade your tools.
Despite getting in your way when you’re trying to explore new areas, tree stumps are also quite useful. They’ll provide you with two different kinds of wood which you can use in multiple crafting projects. However, if you want to get your hands on either Softwood or Hardwood from tree stumps, you’ll need to know how to get rid of them.
Removing tree stumps from Dreamlight Valley isn’t just about gathering resources and clearing a path for yourself. Consider the number of characters you’ll need to build homes for across the village. Doing this will be much easier if your landscapes are free from debris and clutter. Clearing tree stumps is a necessary part of that, despite them actually looking aesthetically pleasing.
Getting Rid of Tree Stumps
When you first get started in Disney Dreamlight Valley, you’ll collect the Royal Tools which help you on your adventures. One of these is the Royal Shovel, which can be used for digging up soil and other surfaces. However, it’s only at a basic level at the starting point of the game. If you want to remove tougher objects, like tree stumps, you’ll need to upgrade it.
To do this, you’ve got to enlist the help of one of the Valley villagers. In particular, you’ll need the assistance of Anna from Frozen. However, she’s not in the village, to begin with. This means you’ll need to find and unlock her so she can be brought back to Dreamlight Valley. You won’t be able to upgrade your Royal Shovel until you do so.
Unlocking Anna From the Frozen Realm
To bring Anna back to the village, you’ll need to unlock the Frozen realm in the Dream Castle. It’s on the second floor and will cost you 4,000 Dreamlight to open.
Once inside, you’ll meet Anna, who will have a series of quests for you to complete within the Frozen forest realm.
Work your way through each stage of Anna’s quests in this realm. You’ll also get to meet Elsa while you’re here, but you can bring her back to Dreamlight Valley later. Once you’ve completed all the steps for Anna in the Frozen realm, you can welcome her back to the Valley.
Luckily, Anna’s home is the same home as Kristoff’s and is already in place in the Forest of Valor. This means you don’t have to spend any Star Coins to build somewhere for her to live. You will, however, need to work on your relationship with her as soon as she returns to Dreamlight Valley. This way, you’ll be able to begin working on upgrading your Royal Shovel.
How to Upgrade the Royal Shovel
First, you’ll need to level up your friendship with Anna. She needs to be at friendship level two in order to kick off the quest that lets you upgrade your Royal Shovel. It shouldn’t be too hard to get to level two. You can just ask Anna to hang out with you, give her a gift or two, or just have a daily discussion and the friendship meter should fill up pretty quickly.
Once you’re at level two, Anna will give you the An Icy Invitation quest. This will give you a couple of steps to work through before you’re given a shovel upgrade quest. Anna will need you to gather a number of materials so that you can craft the Shovel Blade. This is the first upgrade and will allow you to clear out those pesky tree stumps.
The materials you’ll need to craft the Shovel Blade are as follows.
- Softwood x 10
- Hardwood x 4
- Iron Ingots x 4
- Tinkering Parts x 3
Softwood can be gathered easily. You’ll see sticks of it scattered on the ground and near trees in the Plaza, Peaceful Meadow, Forest of Valor, Glade of Trust, Sunlit Plateau, the Forgotten Lands, and the Frosted Heights.
Hardwood is a little trickier to come by organically. However, it can be looted from the ground near trees in the Forest of Valor, Glade of Trust, Sunlit Plateau, Frosted Heights, and the Forgotten Lands. It’s darker and redder in color than ordinary Softwood, so look carefully when gathering.
Iron Ingots can be made at a crafting station, provided you have enough Iron Ore and Coal Ore. You can mine Iron Ore from rock nodes in the Forest of Valor, Glade of Trust, Sunlit Plateau, Frosted Heights, the Forgotten Lands, and the Vitalys Mines.
Tinkering Parts can also be created at a crafting station. You’ll need two Iron Ore to make them.
How to Get Rid of Tree Stumps
Once you’ve gathered all the components, you can craft the Shovel Blade upgrade. Select this in your inventory and select use. This will immediately apply the upgrade to your Royal Shovel. You’ll now be able to dig up any tree stumps you come across.
This will allow you to clear the pathway at the ends of the bridges in the Forest of Valor. From here, you’ll have access to the northern part of the biome, as well as plenty of Softwood and Hardwood from your newly-removed tree stumps.
Hardwood in particular is a valuable crafting and quest resource, so be sure to look for this dropping when you clear out additional tree stumps.
You can now remove tree stumps from anywhere else in the Valley. The upgraded Royal Shovel will also come in useful when Anna asks you to help her bring Elsa back to the village.
