Key Takeaway

You can get Miquella’s Needle by completing Millicent’s questline and retrieving the Unalloyed Gold Needle. Then, defeat Malenia and use the Gold Needle on the scarlet aeonia that appears in her boss room. You’ll receive Miquella’s Needle then.

You can then use Miquella’s Needle to undo becoming the Frenzied Flame’s Lord of Chaos. However, you can only perform this while you’re in Dragonlord Placidusax’s boss room in Crumbling Farum Azula.

There’s an item in Elden Ring called Miquella’s Needle that has a very interesting effect. It’s said that this needle, crafted by the famed demigod Miquella, is capable of warding off the influence of outer gods.

You will need to complete Millicent’s questline to obtain Miquella’s Needle. This is a long questline that spans four locations, starting at Caelid, and ending at Miquella’s Haligtree.

Table Of Contents

    Starting Millicent’s Questline

To start Millicent’s questline, you’ll first need to speak to a man named Gowry. You can find Gowry at Gowry’s Shack, situated south of Sellia, Town of Sorcery.

Gowry's Shack shown on the map.

Upon meeting him, Gowry will ask for your help to heal a girl named Millicent. To do so, you must obtain the Unalloyed Gold Needle first.

You can receive this item by heading to the heart of the Swamp of Aeonia and defeating the boss there. The boss you’ll find in this area is Commander O’Neil. Although tough and relentless, you can make the fight easier for yourself by summoning Pollyanna to fight alongside you. You’ll find her summon sign just before O’Neil’s boss room when you enter it from the Inner Aeonia Site of Grace.

Once you’ve acquired this item, return to Gowry and give it to him. He’ll then ask you to give him time to repair it. You can rest at a Site of Grace and he’ll have repaired the needle when you go back to him.

    Meeting Millicent

Once that’s done, proceed to the Church of the Plague to find Millicent. You can get to the church by lighting two braziers in Sellia, Town of Sorcery. This will break the seal that was once at the massive gate in the northern section of the town. Follow the path here and you’ll be directly led to the church.

Church of the Plague shown on the map.

The path will be plagued by undead creatures. Two large balls will also spawn ahead, which will roll down the slope while targeting your location. You’ll be able to avoid all of them as long as you keep speeding up and swerving accordingly while riding Torrent.

The entrance to the church is guarded by two Kindred of Rot Pests. Deal with them or simply run inside, activate the Site of Grace, and rest at it. You’ll then find Millicent sitting on the ground to the right of the grace site.

Speak to Millicent, exhaust her dialogue, and give her the Unalloyed Gold Needle. She’ll pass out after using the needle on herself. Just rest at the Site of Grace nearby, and she’ll be good and standing afterward.

    Millicent Moving On

When you talk to Millicent after giving her the needle, she’ll express her thanks and her desire to move on. You’ll also receive the Prosthesis-Wearer Heirloom, a talisman that will raise your Dexterity stat by 5.

Upon resting, you’ll find that Millicent has left her location. You can find her next by heading to Gowry’s Shack. She’ll be there, but Gowry won’t be. Exhaust her dialogue here to make her move to her next location.

    Getting the Valkyrie’s Prosthesis

You’ll find Millicent next at Altus Plateau, north of the Erdtree-Gazing Hill Site of Grace. When spoken to here, Millicent will tell you that if she still had her sword arm, she could have aided you in battle.

With that, proceed to the north and onto the Shaded Castle.

Upon entering the castle from the south, the first Site of Grace you’ll encounter is the Shaded Castle Ramparts Site of Grace. From here, proceed to the northwest while avoiding or dealing with the enemies and the poison swamp until you can spot a ladder that will take you to another castle rampart.

Climb the ladder and proceed onwards. Then, take the path to the left and continue going forward until you come across a Cleanrot Knight. The room behind the knight contains a chest that holds the Valkyrie’s Prosthesis.

Obtain the item, return to Millicent at the Erdtree-Gazing Hill, and give the item to her. Exhaust her dialogue here, and she’ll move to her next location.

    Millicent At Dominula, Windmill Village

Head to the Dominula, Windmill Village in northern Altus Plateau.

Windmill Village shown on the map.

At the top of the village, you’ll face a Godskin Apostle boss. You’ll also find Millicent’s summon sign before reaching the area where the Godskin Apostle is. Summon her if you want to. Your choice in this matter won’t affect her questline. Either way, defeat the boss to advance Millicent’s questline.

Once the boss is defeated, rest at the Site of Grace and Millicent will appear standing close to it. Speak to her and exhaust her dialogue.

    Millicent’s Next Locations

Millicent’s next location will be at the Ancient Snow Valley Ruins Site of Grace in the Mountaintops of the Giants.

Do note that you can also summon her during the Black Blade Kindred boss fight outside the Grand Lift of Rold. Just like before, choosing to summon her or not has no bearing on her questline.

Exhaust her dialogue here and she’ll move to her next location.

Millicent will then move to the Prayer Room at Miquella’s Haligtree. You can speak to her here, but she won’t move until you’ve defeated the Ulcerated Tree Spirit in the area before Drainage Channel Site of Grace.

To find and defeat the boss, start from the Site of Grace mentioned above. Head to the previous area by taking the western exit. Proceed to where the Kindred of Rot Pest is.

You’ll find a branch to the south of this enemy that leads to another section with a Scarlet Rot swamp ahead. When you step into the center of that swamp, the Ulcerated Tree Spirit will appear.

To make this encounter easier, make sure to carry Preserving Boluses with you, as this alleviates the Scarlet Rot status.

Defeat this boss and rest at the previous Site of Grace. When you return to where the Ulcerated Tree Spirit was, you’ll find two summon signs on the ground northwest of the Scarlet Rot swamp.

The Tarnished standing over two summon signs.

You’ll have two options at this point. You can either assist Millicent or invade her. Choose to assist her and you’ll fight her four sisters alongside her.

Once the four sisters have been defeated, you’ll find Millicent on the ground ahead of where the summon signs were. Exhaust her dialogue here, then fast travel to the Drainage Channel Site of Grace.

Return to Millicent’s location and you can loot the Unalloyed Gold Needle.

    Getting Miquella’s Needle

Now that you’ve completed Millicent’s questline, there’s just one more thing you have to do to get Miquella’s Needle. You’ll need to make your way to the roots of Miquella’s Haligtree where you’ll find Melina, Blade of Miquella.

This boss is by far the hardest boss in Elden Ring. Take all the time you need in defeating her, but this is something you’ll need to do to get Miquella’s Needle.

Once you finally defeat the woman who has never known defeat, reload the area and you’ll find a scarlet aeonia at the center of the boss room. Use the Unalloyed Gold Needle on it, and you’ll receive Miquella’s Needle.

Take note that although the Unalloyed Gold Needle is the necessary item here, this will not work if you don’t complete Millicent’s questline. If you simply retrieve the Unalloyed Gold Needle from Commander O’Neil and use it on the aeonia without completing Millicent’s questline, nothing will happen.

    What Does Miquella’s Needle Do?

Using Miquella's Needle in Elden Ring.

Lore-wise, it is stated that Miquella’s Needle is capable of warding off the influence of outer gods. Gameplay-wise, you can use it to “subdue a once-accepted frenzied flame.”

This is for players who may have accidentally entered the room of the Three Fingers at the Frenzied Flame Proscription. When this happens, they become the Lord of Chaos. This then locks them out of the other endings but the Frenzied Flame ending.

With the Miquella’s Needle, however, they can completely undo the hold of the frenzied flame.

The catch to this item is that it will only work while you’re in Dragonlord Placidusax’s boss room in Crumbling Farum Azula.

To get here, start from the Beside the Great Bridge Site of Grace. Take the elevator behind you down and proceed onwards until you’re back outside. Continue onwards until you’re at the edge.

Look down and look for a platform to jump onto. Continue onwards by jumping onto the floating platforms until you reach the last platform. At the center of this platform, you’ll find that you’ll have the option to Lie Down. Do so and a cutscene will play. After which, you’ll be sent to Dragonlord Placidusax’s boss room.

While you’re here, you can use Miquella’s Needle to subdue the frenzied flame inside you. You don’t need to fight and defeat the boss here for this to work.
