    What Is Permadeath?

Permadeath is almost exactly what it sounds like—permanent death. This refers to the experience when one of your characters dies in battle, and then they are absent from the rest of the game. For example, in Fire Emblem: Three Houses, the game gives you the option to play on Casual or Classic mode—on Casual, your units return after falling in battle, whereas on Classic mode, they are permanently dead, and you will not be able to use them for the rest of the game.

Is There Permadeath in Triangle Strategy?

The simple answer? No, your characters will not permanently die off if you let them fall during battle. It seems that instead, they strategically retreat when their HP reaches zero. The characters will retain any XP they’ve earned before retreating. Once they leave, they cannot earn any more XP until your next battle.
