Key Takeaway

The first half of the Muspelheim realm seed is found in a legendary chest at Modvitnir’s Rig, which is on the southwest coast of Savrtalfheim’s Bay of Bounty. The other half of the Muspelheim seed is also in Svartalfheim and is within a legendary chest in Alberich Hollow, which is a tunnel that connects the northwestern part of the Bay of Bounty to Dragon Beach. The latter chest needs to be cleared of rocky debris with the help of an explosive.

Like in the previous God of War game, Muspelheim contains plenty of combat trials in God of War Ragnarök. However, the seed that lets you enter this land of flaming fights is split in half. You must find both separately.

The first half of the seed is found in a legendary chest (one of the fancy gold ones) at Modvitnir’s Rig. You can get to it when you are first able to access the Bay of Bounty. This chest is on a ledge overlooking the water.

When you open this chest and loot the first half of the Muspelheim seed, a favor will start. Appropriately called “The Crucible”, this favor involves finding both halves of the Muspelheim seed and entering the realm of ferocious combat trials. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to get the second half of the seed for a while. Come back for it after Freya starts accompanying you instead of Atreus.

The second half of the Muspelheim seed is found in the south of Alberich Hollow, which is also in Svartalfheim. Although, you can’t reach this spot until you come back to this realm after a few legs of the main story quest. Specifically, after you fight and slay Níðhöggr in Vanaheim||. You can get the second half of the seed when you’re able to reach Dragon Beach.

The chest with the second half of the seed will be blocked by rocky debris. Thankfully, there are some of those pots nearby that produce explosive stones. From Dragon Beach, go north into Alberich Hollow until you come across a legendary chest partially buried under some rubble.

There are a few explosive pots in Alberich Hollow, so head to the nearest one to grab an old-fashioned grenade. Afterward, make your way to the legendary chest and lob the grenade at it to clear away the debris. All you need to do now is open the chest!

Within, you find the second half of the Muspelheim realm seed. This will update The Crucible favor and Freya will have some dialogue to go along with your discovery. The Vanir ally will then hint at how to access Muspelheim.

    Getting Into Muspelheim

Freya speaking to Kratos about getting into Muspelheim after getting both halves of its realm seed.

As Freya mentions, you need to use a Mystic Gateway to get into Muspelheim. You thankfully don’t need to do anything to join the two halves of the realm seed. All that’s needed is to hit up the nearest blue portal and warp there via GoWR‘s fast travel system.

While you can make a lot of progress in Muspelheim’s trials at this point, it can be pretty hard. Also, the final six challenges are meant for builds at gear level six and up. As such, you may need to come back later to complete all of the combat trials if your armor and weapons aren’t upgraded enough.
