Key Takeaway
Firstly, take out the annoying Bokoblins riding on the Battle Talus. Next, aim your attacks at the rock on top of the Battle Talus—this is its only true weak point.
Ranged attacks are the most efficient—especially if you use bomb arrows or other types of fused arrows. Be sure to take cover while using ranged attacks on a Battle Talus, as it can throw rocks at you.
For a melee approach, lure the Battle Talus to some low ground. That way, you can use any nearby high ground to paraglide on top of it to easily access its weak point. When you get knocked off, climb some high ground and paraglide on top of the Battle Talus once again.
It can be hard to beat Battle Talus, as this type of enemy only has one weakness. Thankfully, in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, there are some tricks to taking down this huge foe. Prepare for battle!

Tips for Fighting a Battle Talus With Ranged Attacks (00:33 in the Video Guide)
Ranged attacks are the most efficient way to take down a Battle Talus in most situations. However, before you begin the fight, make sure you have enough arrows, bows, and fusion materials. Also, take out the Bokoblins riding the Battle Talus as soon as possible to avoid their arrows and other ranged attacks.
The Best Position for a Ranged Fight
After doing a bit of battle preparation, find some cover. Battle Talus can throw massive boulders at you, so it’s best if you’re not standing out in the open. At many Battle Talus locations, there’s often a small raised platform and a chest. The chest, despite being quite small, can be used as a surprisingly reliable boulder blocker.
While the platform itself can be used for cover, you won’t have a good line of sight on the Battle Talus’ weak point from the ground, so it’s better to be on top of the raised platform. Make sure that the chest is between you and the Battle Talus. Most of the thrown boulders won’t hit you if you’re positioned correctly.
The Best Fused Arrows for Fighting Battle Talus
As usual, bomb arrows are one of the best options for ranged fights like these. Each bomb arrow (created by fusing Bomb Flowers to your arrows) takes off a sizeable chunk from a Battle Talus’ health bar.
However, fusing Fire Fruit to your arrows also does a respectable amount of damage. Fire Fruit is more common, so you can get more of them easier than replacing your precious Bomb Flowers.
If you’ve also got a ton of Bokoblin Horns and Bokobling Fangs in your inventory, feel free to use them here. Arrows fused with those materials won’t do as much damage as bomb arrows or fire arrows but still do a lot more than basic arrows.
Tips for Fighting a Battle Talus With Melee Attacks (03:04 in the Video Guide)
If you’re planning on taking down a Battle Talus with a melee weapon, be sure to bring at least one or two hammer-type weapons. These can easily be made by fusing round rocks to the ends of pretty much any unfused weapon. Be sure to get rid of the Bokoblins riding the Battle Talus, as they get in the way.
The Best Position for a Melee Fight
Since Battle Talus has its weak point on top of its head, this is the place you need to be to reach it. If you’re quick enough, you can climb onto a Battle Talus before it wakes up.
Although this is the quickest method, it’s not always possible. Sometimes it’s better to lure the Battle Talus to some low ground for an easier time getting on top of it. By doing so, you can climb to some high ground and use your Paraglider to glide down and land on top of the Battle Talus. That is if you’ve unlocked the Paraglider already.
After you hit the Battle Talus’ weak point a bunch of times, it throws you off. When this happens, climb up to the same high ground you did previously and paraglide onto the Battle Talus again. Rinse and repeat until your foe is defeated.
The Best Weapons for Fighting Battle Talus
As we mentioned already, you want to attack a Battle Talus’ weak point with a hammer-type weapon. Bladed weapons break very quickly when you smack them against hard objects—like the rock on a Battle Talus’ head. Conversely, blunt weapons don’t have this issue.
Any round rock on a stick will do just fine. However, clubs, spiked clubs, and other actual weapons deal more damage. In particular, Boss Boko Clubs and Hinox Hammers are especially useful here.
Those weapons can be dropped by Boss Bokoblins and sometimes looted from bigger Bokoblin bases. Alternatively, you can make them by fusing Boss Bokoblin and Hinox materials into weapons.
The Rewards for Beating a Battle Talus (02:19 and 07:25 in the Video Guide)
Once you beat a Battle Talus, you’ll get many ore-related rewards. This mainly includes Amber, Opals, Rubies, Flint, and Rock Salt. All of these are useful materials, as Opals and Rubies sell for a lot of Rupees, Amber and Flint are useful for crafting, and Rock Salt is handy when cooking.
Use these rewards to prepare yourself for tougher fights in the future! There are some dangerous foes out there, such as Stalnox and other huge enemies. You’ll need to be well-equipped to take on these threats.
