Key Takeaway
You can find one Shiny Stone on Iron Island and another on Route 228. Pokémon with the Pickup ability can also spawn held Shiny Stones after battles at low odds.
To get Shiny Stones in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, you’ll need to explore a couple of places. However, doing so will only get you up to two. If you want more, you’ll need a Pokémon with the Pickup ability.

Both Locations Where You Can Find Shiny Stones
There are two locations with guaranteed Shiny Stones. The first is Iron Island, and the other is Route 228. You need to explore these areas thoroughly to find each Shiny Stone…unless you know where to look!
Location of the Iron Island Shiny Stone
You can get the Shiny Stone from Iron Island sooner than the one on Route 228. However, doing so requires you to fully pass through Iron Island’s single large cave.
Make your way through the cave (with the help of the NPC Riley and his Lucario). When you’re near the end of it, you have to battle a pair of Team Galactic grunts. Thankfully, they’re pretty weak, so you and Riley shouldn’t have an issue defeating them.
Afterward, descend the elevator south of the grunt pair and follow the linear path to the cave’s exit. This leads you to another elevator that brings you up to a room with an exit on the left and an item on the right.
Before you leave through the left exit, pick up the item on the right. This is the Shiny Stone. You can head back into the cave if you want to explore for more loot. However, if you’re done with Iron Island, leave through the left exit to find yourself outside.
Location of the Route 228 Shiny Stone
On Route 228, there are two houses with purple roofs. The Shiny Stone in this location is on a raised area to the right of the southern purple house. The only way to reach this raised area is to first access another that is closer to the southern purple house. This latter raised that you must reach first is the one directly north of some berry plants.
To reach the raised area above the berry plants, you can either follow the thin bike bridges down from the north of the area or use the sand waterfall nearby. The second option is much quicker, so use your bicycle’s fast mode to race up the shifting slope. From there, you can ride your bike across the bike bridge leading to the right.
This brings you to the raised area holding a single item: a Shiny Stone. Grab it and then continue exploring as you please. It’s worth looking around, as there are other useful items here, like a Protector and a Hard Stone.
How to Get Shiny Stones With the Pickup Ability
Pokémon with the Pickup ability can sometimes spawn a held item from a set pool of them. One way this works is that your Pokémon with Pickup can sometimes obtain an item that a foe used in battle—such as an item thrown with the move Fling. Pickup can activate at the end of a turn during battle, but also works outside of combat.
After each battle, there is a small chance that a Pokémon with Pickup will spawn an item in their grasp. In BDSP, the chances of getting a Shiny Stone this way are rare but still possible with enough time and effort.
Here’s a breakdown of Pickup’s Shiny Stone spawning chances based on a Pokémon’s level in Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl:
- 0% at Levels 1 to 10
- 4% at Levels 11 to 70
- 5% at Levels 71 to 80
- 9% at Levels 81 to 90
- 10% at Levels 91 to 100
Where to Get a Pokémon With the Pickup Ability Early
In both Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, you can find a Pachirisu with Pickup fairly early in your playthrough. On Route 205, which is to the east of Floaroma Town, you can find Pachirisu at an encounter rate of 10% during any time of day.
Keep in mind that Pachirisu can also have the ability Run Away. As such, you’ll need a bit of luck to find the right Pokémon for your Pickup gimmick. With that said, you can do this as soon as you reach Floaroma Town.
What Shiny Stones Are Used For
Shiny Stones are needed to evolve a few different kinds of Pokémon. Though, in BDSP, there are only two obtainable pocket monsters that evolve this way. The first is Roselia, which evolves into Roserade. The other is Togetic, which evolves into Togekiss.
