Octopath Traveler 2 follows after the original game—Octopath Traveler—which launched in July of 2018. Considering the title suggests it is a direct sequel, many gamers have been left wondering if they need to play the first game to fully enjoy Octopath Traveler 2.
If you’re looking for the short answer, you do not need to play the games in order. In fact, you could opt for skipping the first game entirely without missing out on much of the second. The characters and their stories in Octopath Traveler 2 all stand alone from the first game. Despite the fact that the game is named as if it’s a direct sequel, there is essentially no information you will need to bring with you from the first game into the second.
