Varre is the first NPC you’ll personally interact with in Elden Ring. As such, he is a memorable character with equally memorable dialogue. You can find Varre again in another location to start and complete his quest.

Meeting Varre For the First Time

White Mask Varre from Elden Ring.

You’ll find Varre standing next to the First Step Site of Grace when you first exit the Stranded Graveyard. You can exhaust his dialogue here, but he won’t move to his second destination until you fulfill a specific requirement.

Varre will tell you to follow the guidance of grace, which leads you to Stormveil Castle. Here, you’ll find Godrick the Grafted. Defeat this demigod to earn a Great Rune.

Once done, head to the Roundtable Hold and speak with Enia and the Two Fingers. Varre will then leave his usual spot at the First Steps and move to Liurnia.

    Varre at Rose Church

You’ll find Varre next at Rose Church in Liurnia. The exact location of this church is marked in the image below. He’ll be standing right outside the entrance.

Exhaust his dialogue here and he’ll give you the Festering Bloody Finger. This is a multiplayer item that allows you to invade other players’ worlds online.

From here on, you have two ways to progress Varre’s questline.

    • Perform three invasions. You don’t need to defeat the other player for an invasion to count.
Invade other players in Elden Ring.
    • Invade and defeat Magnus the Beast Claw in Writheblood Ruins in Altus Plateau.

Once one of the two is done, return and speak to Varre once more. He’ll then commend you for your actions and offer to anoint you as a knight of the Lord of Blood. If you agree, he’ll give you the Lord of Blood’s Favor.

The next step to Varre’s questline is to soak the cloth with a maiden’s blood.

    Finding a Maiden’s Blood

There are three ways to soak the cloth with the blood of a maiden in Elden Ring. The first one is to kill Irina if you haven’t progressed her questline yet and use her blood. You can kill her if she’s still at her usual position in the Weeping Peninsula.

The second option is to head to the Church of Inhibition. Here, you’ll find a dead maiden right beside the Site of Grace. Interact with her body here and you’ll be able to soak the Lord of Blood’s Favor with a maiden’s blood.

Finally, you can also use the dead maiden at the Chapel of Anticipation, the game’s starting area. You can return to this place by unlocking the belfry in the Four Belfries that has the message, “Precipice of Anticipation.”

Once the Lord of Blood’s Favor is soaked, return to Varre once again and you’ll receive the Bloody Finger and the Pureblood Knight’s Medal.

That second reward allows you to be transported to Mohgwyn Palace.

    Fighting Varre

The best benefit to doing Varre’s questline is having access to Mohgwyn Palace early in the game, which has the best rune farming spot in the entire game. After you’re rewarded with the Pureblood Knight’s Medal, you can essentially mark the questline complete.

However, there’s one final step that you can take, and that’s fighting Varre himself by invading him.

You can find Varre’s invasion sign near the mausoleum exit before the Mausoleum Dynasty Midpoint Site of Grace. Varre wields the Varre’s Bouquet hammer and a Sacred Seal which he uses to cast Bloodflame Blade, Catch Flame, and Swarm of Flies.

Once defeated, Varre drops his weapon along with six Festering Bloody Fingers.
