Key Takeaway

You can get Bewitching Branches by purchasing them from the Nomadic Merchant north of Bellum Church, looting a body located northwest of the Church of Inhibition, or choosing them as Keepsakes at the beginning of the game.

Alternatively, you can also craft them after obtaining the Fevor’s Cookbook [3] from Gideon, He gives it to you when you talk to him after finding the map for Mohgwyn Palace.

The Bewitching Branch is a consumable in Elden Ring that has a very unique function. There’s only a limited number of it in the world. However, picking up a certain cookbook will allow you to craft this yourself.

What Does a Bewitching Branch Do?

Using a Bewitching Branch in Elden Ring.

A Bewitching Branch counts as a consumable item. It can be used on enemies, which then turns them into allies for three minutes. Using a Bewitching Branch also costs FP.

Unfortunately, Bewitching Branches don’t work on every enemy in Elden Ring. It can be used on smaller ones such as humanoid enemies, wolves, imps, miners, omens, etc. It doesn’t work on bosses and other bigger enemies such as trolls, runebears, spider hands, flame chariots, lobsters, etc.

The most notable uses of Bewitching Branches are during the Commander Niall boss fight and the Albinauric Rise puzzle.

When Commander Niall summons two Banished Knights at the beginning of the fight, you can use Bewitching Branches on them and they’ll attack Niall instead, making the encounter way easier.

To break the seal in the Albinauric Rise, you’ll need to make two imps fight each other. You can do so with this item.

Using a Bewitching Branch makes it spew pink dust, creating an area of effect. Charmable enemies touched by the dust get charmed. This means you can charm multiple enemies at once as long as they’re cramped together.

Unlike Spirit Ashes, enemies charmed by a Bewitching Branch will not follow you around. If charmed and there are no other enemies around, they’ll simply stay in position or resume their regular patrol route.

While a charmed enemy becomes your ally with this item, their attacks can still damage you if you happen to be in the way as they’re attacking.

How to Get Bewitching Branches in the Lands Between

Aside from crafting, there are three other sources to get Bewitching Branches. The first one is during the Character Creation.

When you first create your character, you have the option to choose one Keepsake, which is an item you carry with you at the beginning of the game. There are nine Keepsakes that you can choose from, and one of them is the Bewitching Branch. Choosing it will grant you five Bewitching Branches.

    Purchase Bewitching Branches

The other way to get Bewitching Branches in Elden Ring is to buy them. However, there’s only one merchant in the entire game that sells them, and he only has five in his inventory.

You can purchase five Bewitching Branches from the Nomadic Merchant located north of Bellum Church. He sells them for 1,600 Runes each.

    Pick Up Bewitching Branches

You can also pick up three Bewitching Branches from a corpse located northwest of the Church of Pilgrimage in the Weeping Peninsula. See the image below for its exact location on the map.

To get to the body that holds the Bewitching Branches, you’ll need to get on top of the broken pillar located directly north of the church. Use Torrent to make this jump. Once you’re atop the pillar, face north and look down and you’ll spot another pillar you can jump onto.

From here, drop to the cliff to your west. Proceed onwards from here and you’ll spot two bodies on a lower cliff, surrounded by three bats. The Bewitching Branches is on the body to the right.

    How to Craft Bewitching Branches

As you can see, there are very few options to get Bewitching Branches in the Lands Between. However, learn to craft them and you can have as many as you want.

You can craft Bewitching Branches by having Fevor’s Cookbook [3]. You receive the cookbook from Gideon Ofnir after you get to Mohgwyn Palace and obtain the area’s map.

Make your way to Mohgwyn Palace. There are two ways to get to this area. The first way is to complete Varre’s questline. At the end of this questline, Varre gives you the Pureblood Knight’s Medal. Using this item transports you straight to Mohgwyn Palace.

The second way is to get to the Consecrated Snowfield and use the waygate there. The waygate is on the western edge of the region, northwest of Yelough Anix Ruins. You’ll be invaded by a Sanguine Noble when you get close to this area. You won’t be able to use the waygate until the invader is defeated.

Once you get to Mohgwyn Palace by either means, pick up the area’s map. It is on a corpse lying on the ground past the first staircase you climb as you ascend the Mohgwyn Dynasty Mausoleum.

If you got to Mohgwyn Palace by completing Varre’s questline, take note that you’ll also need to defeat Morgott in Leyndell before Gideon can give you the Fevor’s Cookbook.

If you’re at the point in the game where Gideon is no longer in the Roundtable Hold, you can purchase the cookbook from the Twin Maiden Husks for 2,000 Runes instead.

With the cookbook obtained, you’re free to craft as many Bewitching Branches as you want. You can craft one for one Sacramental Bud and one Miquella’s Lily.
