Key Takeaway

To make a Sticky Elixir in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, you need either a Sticky Lizard or a Sticky Frog as your main ingredient. Next, you must brew a Sticky Lizard or Sticky Frog with monster parts in a cooking pot.

The more Sticky Lizards or Sticky Frogs you use, the longer the Sticky Elixir’s effects will last. You can also increase elixir durations by using monster parts from stronger enemies.

To craft a Sticky Elixir in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, you’ll need specific critters and monster parts. Keep your eyes peeled for the stickiest lizards and frogs, as they’ll let you craft an elixir that’ll help you climb slippery surfaces with ease. Rain will no longer impede your progress!

What Does a Sticky Elixir Do?

A Sticky Elixir in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom lets you climb slippery surfaces without sliding downwards. This includes wet walls and cliffs as well as areas that are slippery for other reasons.

Most commonly, you’ll have issues climbing anywhere outside while it’s raining. Besides putting on armor that has slip resistance, Sticky Elixirs are the only way to climb such surfaces.

Alternatively, you can always bomb jump to get above obstacles. That’s arguably the most fun way to ascend vertical surfaces in TotK.

    How to Craft Sticky Elixirs

To craft a Sticky Elixir, you’ll need either a Sticky Lizard or a Sticky Frog as your base ingredient. In addition to your chosen critter, you’ll need to fill out the rest of the elixir recipe with monster parts.

On the top is a Sticky Frog in the player's inventory, and, on the bottom, is a Sticky Lizard in a player's inventory in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
    Note
Any monster parts will do; however, the stronger the monster parts, the longer the elixir’s effects last. On that note, using more Sticky Lizards or Sticky Frogs in elixir recipes also increase said elixir’s duration.

Once you have the required ingredients, find any cooking pot to start brewing your elixir.

    1. Open your materials inventory
    2. Find a Sticky Lizard or Sticky Frog
    3. Hold 1 or 2 Sticky Lizards/Sticky Frogs
    4. Hold 4 or 5 monster parts
    5. Exit your materials inventory
    6. Put the ingredients into the cooking pot

The Best Recipe for Sticky Elixirs

Although you can get away with using 1 Sticky Lizard or Sticky Frog as the base for your Sticky Elixir, doing so won’t give a product with a long duration. For effects that last longer, we recommend using at least 2 Sticky Lizards or Sticky Frogs for your Sticky Elixirs.

In the above image, we used 1 Sticky Lizard and 4 Black Bokoblin Horns. This gave us a Sticky Elixir that only lasts 6 minutes and 40 seconds. Compared to the recipes in the image below—where we used 2 Sticky Lizards and similarly potent monster parts—recipes with 2 critters create Sticky Elixirs that last longer.

The best recipe we’ve found for Sticky Elixirs is 2 Sticky Lizards and 3 Hinox Toenails. That recipe gives you a Sticky Elixir that lasts for 9 minutes and 30 seconds.

    Where to Find Sticky Elixirs

Instead of crafting your own Sticky Elixirs, you can also find them in chests throughout Hyrule. They sometimes spawn in the chests of caves, shrines, and other locations. With that said, these found elixirs aren’t guaranteed to have long effect durations. You’re better off making Sticky Elixirs yourself if you want the highest quality consumables.

Where to Find Sticky Lizards and Sticky Frogs

You can find Sticky Lizards in many caves throughout Hyrule. For this reason, Sticky Lizards are easier to find than Sticky Frogs. The latter don’t spawn in caves and can only usually be found in wet areas outside of caves. However, there are great places to farm these frogs.

The Best Place to Get Sticky Lizards

If you find a convenient cave that has Sticky Lizards—mark it on your map! We won’t go into specific locations, as Sticky Lizards are common in many caves that aren’t in hot and arid locations. In particular, the southeast areas of the map boast the best conditions for finding Sticky Lizards.

Also, you can buy Sticky Lizards from Beedle for a relatively low price. At the South Akkala Stable, Beedle sells Sticky Lizards for 32 Rupees each. The South Akkala Stable is located southwest of the Ulri Mountain Skyview Tower.

Beedle restocks his inventory once every few days. At this location, he also sells Hightail Lizards and Fireproof Lizards—both of which are useful for other elixirs.

The Best Place to Get Sticky Frogs

For a froggy fiesta, head to Kakariko Village! It’s located directly south of the Lanayru Wetlands. The best place to spot Sticky Frogs near Kakariko Village is along the road leading through the thin canyon that borders the east side of the village.

Once you reach this narrow pass, look along the walls for Sticky Frogs. Appropriately, you’ll find them hanging out near small waterfalls and other slippery surfaces.

Use these critters to brew the most powerful Sticky Elixir in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom! Creating consumables like elixirs and meals are some of the best ways to enhance Link’s potential. If you’re looking to cook better meals, we recommend seeking out the delicious and nutritious Hylian Rice. Never fight foes on an empty stomach!
