How to Use a Lost Ashes of War
Master Hewg is the blacksmith of the Tarnished warriors of the Roundtable Hold. Aside from strengthening your weapons, he can also duplicate your Ashes of War, which requires a Lost Ashes of War.
In total, the game contains about 15 Lost Ashes of War. This means you can only duplicate 15 Ashes of War per playthrough. If you want to duplicate more, you’ll have to head over to New Game+, also known as a new “Journey.”
Buying Lost Ashes of War
There are a handful of merchants in Elden Ring that sell Lost Ashes of War. Here’s who those merchants are and where they’re found.
- Isolated Merchant (Weeping Peninsula) – Sells one Lost Ashes of War for 3,000 Runes.
- Isolated Merchant (Academy of Raya Lucaria) – The Isolated Merchant that’s outside the Academy of Raya Lucaria sells one Lost Ashes of War for 4,000 Runes. You can get to this merchant’s location by starting at the Main Academy Gate Site of Grace and going to the eastern bridge. You must pass through the seal instead of examining it.
- Isolated Merchant (Dragonbarrow) – This merchant sells two Lost Ashes of War for 5,000 Runes.
- Hermit Merchant (Ainsel River) – The Hermit Merchant in Ainsel River sells one for 3,000 Runes. Descend to Ainsel River from the River Well in eastern Liurnia to get to this merchant’s location.
- Imprisoned Merchant (Mohgwyn Palace) – The Imprisoned Merchant inside the mausoleum in Mohgwyn Palace sells one Lost Ashes of War for 5,000 Runes.
Raya Lucaria
Aside from the Isolated Merchant outside the academy, there’s one more Lost Ashes of War that you can obtain in this area.
Start from the Schoolhouse Classroom Site of Grace and take the western exit. Proceed directly to the upward slope across the exit to get to the top of a waterwheel. From here, you can ride one of the platforms to get all the way to the bottom.
Once you’re at the bottom, be mindful of the Abductor Virgin here. This enemy will transport you to the Volcano Manor if it depletes your HP while you’re inside its stomach chamber. Deal with this enemy first. Once dealt with, face northwest and you’ll find a pile of crystals on the ground.
Head over to the pile of crystals and go higher until you’re able to jump over to the higher ground. There’s a small mausoleum at the end of this area and you’ll find a Lost Ashes of War at the base of its door.
Ruin-Strewn Precipice
There’s one Lost Ashes of War in the upper sections of the Ruin-Strewn Precipice. It’s on a corpse that’s clinging to the edge of a cliff behind the platform where you’ll find two Chanting Winged Dames. This area is situated before the lift to the Ruin-Strewn Precipice Overlook.
Sellia Hideaway
There’s one on a corpse that’s lying at the bottom of the first pit you find in Sellia Hideaway. There’s a Revenant in this area too so be sure to pay attention to this enemy. Revenants are intense and unrelenting.
Sage’s Cave
Progress through Sage’s Cave until you find two chests and a fire tripod in the middle. The chest on the right of the tripod contains a Lost Ashes of War
Capital Outskirts
You’ll find another Lost Ashes of War on a corpse outside the closed door northwest of Leyndell.
Leyndell, Royal Capital
Start at the Lower Capital Church Site of Grace. Exit the church and proceed to the ladder ahead. Make your way down and you’ll notice a small Fingercreeper that’s clinging to the wall above the arch door. Throw an item or fire a spell at this enemy to force it down. Otherwise, let it fall and deal with it accordingly.
Head through the door then take the path to the left. Then, take the first left and continue onwards until you reach the end of the path where you’ll find a corpse that holds a Lost Ashes of War. Beware of the Fingercreepers here. There’s one on the ceiling of the tunnel you pass through and another on top of the item at the end of this path.
Subterranean Shunning-Grounds
There’s one on a corpse found outside the Dung Eater’s cell. To get here, start from the Underground Roadside Site of Grace. Exit this room then head left. Continue onwards until you spot a hole in the ground where a grate should be. Drop down and head northwest.
Keep going onwards and run past or defeat a horde of rats and Miranda Flowers on your way. There’s a ladder at the end of this path. Take it to get to an upper level. This is the area just before the Dung Eater’s cell. The corpse that has the Lost Ashes of War is in the middle of this room. Be mindful when approaching the corpse, though, as there’s a Fingercreeper that’s burrowed below it, emerging when you get just above it.
Miquella’s Haligtree
Start from the Haligtree Town Site of Grace. Head southeast and take the ladder up to get to the massive branch above. Once you’re standing on the branch, start heading south. Be very careful of the bubbles that the Giant Oracle Envoy constantly fires your way.
Keep an eye on a lower branch to your left. Once you’re situated just above it, make your way down there and proceed onward. Keep going until you’re face-to-face with the Giant Oracle Envoy that’s been bugging you on your way here.
Deal with this enemy as you see fit. Once dealt with, head to the platform to the west where you’ll find a lone statue and a corpse at its base. Loot the corpse to get your final Lost Ashes of War.
