Key Takeaway
There are two Draugr holes in Svartalfheim: one at The Watchtower in the Bay of Bounty and one in The Applecore’s mines. The third is in the west of the Barrens area in Alfheim and the fourth is in the northeast area of the Lake of Nine in Midgard. The final two Draugr holes are in Vanaheim: one in The Abandoned Village and another in the far northeast section of The Plains.
In God of War Ragnarök, the Born From Fire favor will task you with hunting down The Hateful. These particularly strong Draugr emerge from fiery holes that you must close to prevent them from causing trouble.

Where to Find Every Draugr Hole
The six Draugr holes that you need to close are found throughout four different realms: Svartalfheim, Alfheim, Midgard, and Vanaheim. The first two are in Svartalfheim, the third is in Alfheim, the fourth is in Midgard, and the final two are in Vanaheim.
Svartalfheim Draugr Hole #1
The first Draugr Hole in Svartalfheim—the one that will begin the Born From Fire favor—is located at The Watchtower just south of the Bay of Bounty. You can access this spot the first time you reach Svartalfheim.
However, The Hateful here will most likely be at a higher level than you at this point. If you’re having too much trouble in this fight, you can always come back later. Alternatively, scroll down to the “How to Beat the Hateful” section of this article for helpful tips.
Svartalfheim Draugr Hole #2
The second Draugr Hole in Svartalfheim will take a bit longer to discover. You need to progress through the story quests until you pass through The Applecore area. As you’re traveling south, be on the lookout for a large door just past one of Brok and Sindri’s forges.
The bluish-green emblem at the top of the door should help you spot it as you’re making your way along the minecart tracks of these tunnels. There is also an artifact from the Things Left Behind collection on a barrel nearby.
Prepare yourself and then go through the big wooden door to find a flaming Draugr Hole. There isn’t much room to maneuver here, so be careful not to back yourself into a corner.
Alfheim Draugr Hole
The next of The Hateful that you can find is in The Barrens area of Alfheim. The mound the Draugr Hole is found on is in the west of this desert valley. However, you need to complete the Secret of the Sands favor before you can access it. This is due to the sandstorm preventing you from getting on top of the hill.
Once you dissipate the sandstorm and can make your way up here, there is another of The Hateful to encounter. The small plateau makes for a great fighting arena with few obstructions, so dodging here will be easy.
Midgard Draugr Hole
When you return to Midgard, head to the northeast of the Lake of Nine. The Midgard Draugr Hole is located very close to a Raider Hideout. You need to walk up a snowy slope to find it.
This burning pit will be easy to spot against the contrasting white snow. There is also a large chest nearby that you can loot after you defeat The Hateful that spawns here.
Vanaheim Draugr Hole #1
The first time that you visit Vanaheim, you can find this Draugr hole by proceeding with the main quest until you reach The Abandoned Village. The Hateful here is waiting just off the beaten path in a forested thicket.
There isn’t a lot of room to maneuver here, so dodging may be a bit tricky. This glade is longer than it is wide, so use the length of the terrain to your advantage if you need to back off.
Vanaheim Draugr Hole #2
You won’t be able to reach this Draugr Hole on your first visit to Vanaheim. You need to return later, sometime after rescuing Freyr|| from enemies. The favor that will lead you to discover The Crater is called Scent of Survival, wherein you follow Helka the hound to a place where you can use a magic quest-only flying boat to reach this new location.
Furthermore, after you reach The Crater, you won’t be able to get to the final Draugr Hole until you restore water to the region. To do this, you need to complete the Return of the River favor. Only then can you use a boat to sail up to the stairs leading to The Hateful in The Crater.
What You Get for Defeating The Hateful
There are lots of valuable resources that you get from defeating The Hateful. Out of these, the Chaos Sparks are arguably the most important. When you gather six Chaos Sparks, they will merge into a Chaos Flame, which you need to upgrade the Blades of Chaos.
Besides those, you also get Sovereign Coals and Dust of Realms—both of which are rare upgrade materials. On top of all this, defeating The Hateful will net you some nice XP for your protagonists as well as some Hacksilver.
How to Beat the Hateful
Overall, the Leviathan Axe is your best bet for taking down The Hateful. As they are beings made of fire, it makes sense that a weapon imbued with ice magic would be helpful when fighting the burning Draugr. However, there’s more to it than elemental affinities.
The Hateful are very fast, so finding windows to counterattack in between dodging, blocking, and parrying their moves can be tricky. This can be countered by applying the frost status to the Draugr. Frost slows down enemies for a short time, which will make it both easier to avoid incoming damage and unleash your own attacks.
What’s more, frost builds up pretty quickly on these foes, so use your favorite freezing tactics to chill out The Hateful and their minions. Also, use the Leviathan Axe’s runic attacks for quick and easy damage and frost output. Don’t forget to make use of your relic as well!
Remember that you have an ally; make use of their attacks! Atreus’ runic summons and his arsenal of arrows are always useful. The same is true for Freya and her combat tactics.
Atreus and Freya both have support strategies that are great at building up stun damage. This can be particularly helpful against speedy enemies like The Hateful.
