Key Takeaway

Stardew Valley Mummies can be found on the Skull Cavern’s Egyptian-themed floors.

Mummies cannot be killed by normal weapons alone. Once they’ve been downed, you’ll need to plant an explosive to kill them permanently. The following explosives will work:

  • Cherry Bomb
  • Bomb
  • Mega Bomb
  • Explosive Ammo

If you’ve reached the end of the Volcano Dungeon on Ginger Island, you can negate the need for explosives with the Crusader melee weapon enhancement instead, which deals 50% more damage to undead foes like Mummies, and prevents them from reviving.

Mummies may seem like an unstoppable undead foe when you encounter them in the Skull Cavern of Stardew Valley, but with the right equipment and know-how, you can blow them up for good! Afterward, you’ll be free to scoop up all their rare loot drops.

    What Are Mummies?

Mummies in Stardew Valley, like their real Ancient Egyptian counterparts, are wrapped head-to-toe in cream-colored bandages. Staying true to their roots, you can usually find them in Egyptian-tomb-themed rooms inside the Skull Cavern. If you’re on the same floor, they’ll come your way with their arms outstretched. They can easily be out-maneuvered, as they sometimes get stuck behind rocks and terrain.

    Warning
The “dangerous” version of a Mummy has purple-gray-toned bandages with red gleaming eyes.

You’ll notice that Mummies mean business and are impossible to kill with a Sword or Slingshot alone. They’ll be knocked down and become immobilized, making them impossible to walk through. Any regular weapons will then “miss.” After ten seconds, the Mummy will stand up, restored to full health, and resume attacking you.

If you want to mine in peace, there are only two ways of permanently eradicating Mummies in Stardew Valley: through explosives or a weapon with the Crusader enhancement.

    Using Bombs to Kill Mummies

A player holding a bomb over their head in the Skull Cavern of Stardew Valley. They are about to throw the bomb at a couple of downed Mummies.

Killing a Mummy is a two-step process. First, you must hit them with your weapon of choice until it collapses into a pile of bandages. Next, you must manually plant your explosives to go off before the Mummy revives itself. If you don’t time this correctly, it’ll stand back up without a scratch.

    Note
Using explosives on a Mummy while standing will not damage it.

You can use the following items to kill a Mummy:

    • Cherry Bombs
    • Bombs
    • Mega Bombs
    • Explosive Ammo (for a Slingshot)

You’re out of luck if you’re relying on the Napalm Ring to rack up your Mummy kill count. The explosions triggered through this method are unreliable and also not large enough to decimate a Mummy. Manually bombing is the recommended method once you’ve gathered a cluster of downed Mummies in one area to take them all out with one blow.

How to Get the Crusader Sword Enhancement to Kill Mummies Easier

Players can avoid the bombing experience altogether once they’ve got the Crusader enhancement on a melee weapon. As a whole, this is the most effective method. It deals 50% more damage to Ghosts, Skeletons, Void Spirits, and Mummies. As if that’s not enough, the Crusader enhancement also prevents Mummies from reviving completely.

You can get the Crusader weapon enhancement at the Forge on Ginger Island, located on Level 10 of the Volcano Dungeon. Enhancements cost one Prismatic Shard and 20 Cinder Shards. Enhancements are also randomized, so it may take some time before you get the one you want.

    Mummy Loot Drops

All the items that can be dropped from killing a Mummy in Stardew Valley.

While Mummies aren’t exactly hoarding secret treasures, they do have one interesting drop: the Curiosity Lure at a 1% chance. This unique item is a fishing tackle, which is useful for catching rare aquatic creatures in Stardew Valley. Both the regular Mummy and dangerous variants have the same loot drop table.
